Discover the story of the Declaration’s signatories, in this brand-new online event at 7pm (GMT) on 6 April, the 701st anniversary of the Declaration of Arbroath.
New research on the signatories of the 1320 Declaration of Arbroath. A one-hour session featuring:
• Lord Charles Bruce, descendant of Robert the Bruce
• Dr Matthew Hammond, co-creator of the People of Medieval Scotland database
• Katie Illingworth, independent researcher and secondary school teacher
• Fiona Watson, historian & TV presenter
Chaired by: Neil McLennan, author, educator & education manager
This special one-hour panel event will focus on the research behind the book 'Conquered by No One: A People's History of the Scots who made the Declaration of Arbroath in 1320'.
We will hear from four of the book's contributors about the background to Arbroath in 1320 and how they went about researching the signatories of the Declaration of Arbroath.
The presentation will be followed by a 30-minute Q&A session.

He manages an historic family estate in Scotland, involved in tourism, hospitality, farming, forestry, property management and sustainable development. Fiona Watson (Historian and television presenter ) Fiona Watson is a Scottish historian and television presenter. She presented the 2001 BBC series In Search of Scotland. She obtained her degree in Medieval History from the University of St. Andrews, followed by a Ph D from the University of Glasgow. Dr Matthew Hammond (Research Associate @King's College London) Matthew Hammond is a co-creator of the People of Medieval Scotland web resource and has worked extensively on Scottish charters and social networks. He is interested in Scottish landholding society, naming patterns, structures of family and lordship, and identities, and am currently working on a monograph on these themes.
