The fight for union rights at GCHQ
On 25th January 1984, the Conservative Foreign Secretary announced that trade unions would be banned from the Government Communication Headquarters (GCHQ). This decision marked the start of one of the most intensive campaigns for the union movement, especially after 14 workers at GCHQ were sacked after refusing to take a government bribe and give up a basic right at work.
