Lightford is a native of Chicago and has represented the 4th district in the Illinois Senate since 1998. During her Senate career, Lightford has focused on education, health care, and worker protection. Before her Senate election, she worked at the Illinois Department of Central Management Services, the Illinois Department of Corrections, and the Illinois Secretary of State's Office.
