The Voices for Just Climate Action Alliance (VCA), the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) and the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) are hosting an online side event during the UN Water Conference 2023.
This event aims to build on the ongoing dialogue around implementing the Locally Led Adaptation (LLA) agenda, which was a focus of much engagement at COP27. The event will focus on concrete lessons learnt for advancing LLA in the water sector and highlighting the potential for locally led solutions to build climate resilience across several countries and regions.
Please join us at this event for a discussion of how to take forward the locally led adaptation agenda.
This session will include Bahasa, French, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese interpretation.

She has worked extensively on climate resilience, resource conservation, social protection, migration and gender issues. Her experience spans issues of climate change, disaster risk reduction and migration and how it interacts with climate-induced migration. Having provided leadership on policy and program design, she is seen as an important resource in the think tank of several institutions, particularly with government agencies, where she has contributed to the overall strategy, learning and advocacy agendas. Depuis 2014, j’ai débuté une carrière de consultant et expert d’appui à la société civile et des collectivités locales territoriales en matière de la bonne gouvernance et développement durable. Mon premier poste était le coordinateur régional du bureau du programme d’appui à la société civile financé par l’Union européenne en Tunisie (PASC) de 2014 à 2017. Début d’Avril 2018 jusqu’à juin 2021, j’ai occupe le poste du senior manger, dans le cadre du projet TADAEEM, (appui à la décentralisation, la redevabilité et l’efficacité des municipalités) mise en œuvre par la société Deloitte et financé par l’agence de développement américaine USAID, Dorice Bosibori Moseti (Muungano Federation Leader @SDI affiliated Kenyan slum dwellers federation) Dorice Bosibori Moseti is a Muungano Federation leader from Mukuru informal settlement. She is an experienced community organizer and coordinator, and a passionate grassroots leader who has spearheaded various initiatives in the community. Her achievements include leading the successful implementation of the VCA program and planning of Mukuru SPA. With a background in community health and peer-to-peer education on HIV/AIDS, she has worked tirelessly to improve the health and well-being of individuals in her community. Her leadership skills and expertise in community organization have made her a valuable asset to the community. She is committed to ensuring that the community's needs are met and that everyone has access to the resources and support they need to thrive. Bert De Bievre (@FONAG – Fund for the Protection of Water, Ecuador) Bert has 30 years of experience in the Tropical Andes. For 14 years, he worked in academia at the University of Cuenca, Ecuador, where he contributed to establish research groups in water and soil management and Andean hydrology. He then worked for 10 years leading projects in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, focusing on Andean ecosystems such as páramo, watershed management, and Andean watershed hydrology. In Peru, based in CONDESAN, he advised the Peruvian Ministry of Environment and the water regulator, SUNASS, in the design and implementation of policies that support incentives and retribution for water ecosystem services. Since October 2015, he has led the Water Protection Fund for Quito - FONAG in fulfilling its mission of conservation and recovery of water sources for the Metropolitan District of Quito (Ecuador). Guido Cortez Franco (Sociologist and Executive Director @CERDET) In 1998 and 1999, Guido was a researcher on rural migration issues. He was a Juan Misael Saracho de Tarija Public University professor in 2006 and 2007. He has worked at the NGO Centro de Estudios Regionales de Tarija CERDET since 2000, supporting productive and social initiatives of the Guarani and Weenhayek indigenous peoples. From 2005 to the present, he has been the Executive Director of CERDET. From 2005 to 2009, he coordinated a tri-national program (Argentinean, Bolivian and Paraguayan Chaco) of socio-economic development with indigenous communities. Marcela Añez Gomez de la Torre (Water and Infrastructure Coordinator @WWF Bolivia) Marcela is Agricultural Engineer from the Universidad Autónoma del Beni Mcal. José Ballivián de Trinidad, Beni. Within the framework of the Institutional Strategic Plan, she oversees the Agua Dulce strategic theme, which includes wetlands management and integrated watershed management. It coordinates the implementation of the renewable energy project in the Amazon region of Suriname, Colombia, and Bolivia. She oversees promoting water reserves as a climate change adaptation measure. When she held the position of Departmental Director of Natural Resources and Environment of the Prefecture of Beni, part of her work focused on supporting the sustainable use and management of hydrobiological resources, both in rural and indigenous communities. She worked as Responsible for Natural Resources in the CONCERTAR - Intercooperation Program, providing support to the communities for the generation and application of technical proposals for the management of water resources, among others. Nardy Velasco (Cacique @Chiquitanian Indigenous Central Amanecer Roboré (CICHAR)) Cacique of the Central Indígena Chiquitana Amanecer Roboré (CICHAR), she is a leader who represents the strength and power of organized and inclusive work and uses it as a tool to promote projects in which women and Chiquitano communities benefit from teamwork for the common good and improved quality of life, all in defense of their territory and against extractivism and deforestation. Maria Mone Soge (Farmer, high school teacher and local champion @Hewa Village, East Flores District, Indonesia) Maria Mone Soge is a 31 years old farmer, high-school teacher, and local champion from Hewa Village, East Flores District, Indonesia. She is part of the network of Pangan Baik (Good Food) coalition (one of VCA's Indonesia partners) and actively talks about the issue of climate justice especially related to local food, which is heavily related to water issues. Together with the youth-based group in her village, they also initiated water conservation activities which are locally led solutions.
