SUMMARY

1 in 5 people over 80 has diabetes, 1 in 4 in care homes. Ageing, however, is not the same for everyone, some age gracefully and have the same needs as their younger counterparts, whereas others fall suffer weight and muscle loss and have a higher risk of complications of diabetes, such as dementia, strokes, Rena failure, falls and fractures. These individuals have different needs and expectations for their care, as is now recognised in QOF.
