Amazon Rainforest Conservation with Dr. Richard Bodmer
The Yarapa River, which is situated between Peru’s Pacaya Samiria National Reserve and the Tamshiyacu-Tahuayo Community Reserve, is home to a vast array of wildlife, from pink river dolphins and manatees in the waters to monkeys and extraordinary birds in the canopy. However, recent climate fluctuations characterized by successive intensive floods and occasional droughts are impacting the aquatic, terrestrial, and arboreal species in the flooded forests, and this is, in turn, impacting the local people. Dr. Richard Bodmer will present on the research being conducted in this area and the management plans that are being developed to protect both the needs of the indigenous people and the wildlife of the Samiria-Yavari landscape.
