Join us LIVE from Steinway Hall, London, on 20 July at 7pm BST for the final instalment in our Virtual Piano Workshop series hosted by Steinway Artist Dominic Ferris! Our final webinar will focus on piano accompaniment and how to feel comfortable whilst playing for a soloist, whether that be a vocalist or instrumentalist.
◼️ WITH SPECIAL GUEST: Dominic will be joined by soprano Georgi Mottram and together they will work through a wide variety of genres from classical to musical theatre, as well as rounding off the workshop with a special performance.
Whilst accompanying Georgi, Dominic will demonstrate the most important musical techniques to be aware of whilst playing for a singer. Some of the areas Dominic will cover during our accompaniment workshop include:
✔ How to be on the same musical wavelength as your soloist so that the ensemble appears relaxed and syncronised
✔ How to make your soloist feel at ease by providing a musical comfort blanket, allowing them to feel musically supported
✔ How to engage your 'safety radar' enabling you to help your soloist out of a memory slip or a lapse in concentration
✔ How to use the piano to represent contrasting orchestral timbres as though simulating strings, woodwind etc
✔ How to make the most out of the piano writing by knowing when to follow the soloist and when to momentarily 'become' the soloist
◼️ As well as her performing career, Georgi is also a qualified breath-work instructor and will be sharing some tips on how breath-work can promote relaxation and combat anxiety and tension during rehearsal and performance.
◼️ The event will be hosted LIVE from the stunning Steinway Hall in London.
◼️ The workshop is approx. 1 hour and 15 minutes long. Attendees are not required to perform. Simply bring yourselves and a notepad, and you are good to go!
