The COVID crisis exposes systemic injustices that the global labor movement has long fought to change — informality in our economy, weak health care systems, lack of a social safety net, structural racism, gender discrimination and inhumane and exploitative migration regimes. This discussion will highlight issues that workers around the world are facing right now, with particular attention to migrant workers. Our speakers will provide examples of the work that unions are doing to ensure that all workers, regardless of status, have protections amid the pandemic, and we strategize about how to use the crisis as a catalyst to push for a new social contract with no exclusions.
