Harmon, elected to the Illinois Senate in 2002, represents the 39th District which includes such communities as Oak Park, Franklin Park, and Melrose Park. He became Illinois Senate president in January of 2020. In his legislative career he advocates for early childhood education, ethics reform, environmental protections, expanded voter access, and civil rights. Harmon has an undergraduate degree from Knox College and a law degree and MBA from the University of Chicago.
