How to be succinct in a resume while having 20 yrs of experience. What is the most important info to have on it?
Hi everyone! Sophie from Tech Ladies here. Thank you for joining us today with Jenn! Feel free to share where you’re watching from. I’m in Los Angeles.
Hi all, I’m Helen, a UX Designer from Greece
Nope! Recording does not expire :)
Exactly! Either never hearing back or rejections… :(
Struggling for sure. Have been looking for a new position for longer than I want to admit.
I can't really network as the people I know are my current customers, they'll wonder why I'm leaving the company (like what's wrong with the company that they just contracted with).
I’m transitioning…Graphic Design to Visual Design/UX.
As a hiring manager, cover letters show me who's really interested vs the spam applications.
More interesting work, less time in a specific office
Im looking to move to a more creative company
I want to find a company that is super serious about diversity & inclusion.
I wear lots of hats. Less hats (like 2 or 3 instead of 10) so I can focus on making experiences and people better.
I work at the intersection of art, design and technology. I want to do less coding and more creative design thinking.
Pay is a big influencer (I live in the Bay Area).
I work in UX Strategy, but want to narrow my focus and pursue a UX Research role. How to demonstrate my abilities for something that only makes up 20% of my current role?
The Summary of qualifications goes on the resume?
How would you address being potentially overqualified for a position
What about a short intro paragraph? Should I bother? Convert that to skills too? How many bullet points is appropriate to the summary?
Do you need to re-word the bullet points so that you are not saying exactly what they have in the job description ?
yes, thank you!
any advice for those who are already in a role that normally requires more “years of experience” than they personally have for transitioning to their next role? I’m ready to grow & it now seems an obstacle that I got this role with less than the standard years
Tweak it, perfect. Thanks!
Many positions I see, I can't tell the experience level they're looking for, and glass door may not show a salary range to help.
Any thoughts on a fancy resume design? I used an Etsy template to make a very nice looking resume, that has some style and includes my picture. I seem to be getting good results with it, but are there occasions where it ever works against you? (I’ve read conflicting articles on the interwebs)
Should projects done in grad school be included in the education section of my resume or related classes to the job I’m applying for, or both? thanks.
Is there an ideal number of pages a resume should be?
Is all the info below the SOQ the same between all the different versions?
Do you recommend doing the bullet points for the SOQ or a short paragraph? I have 1-2 liens at the top of my resume.
How about the submission of the resume? Like LinkedIn Easy Apply.. any thoughts on which methods are best?
Any particular format preference for the resume file - word doc vs. pdf?
I'm attending this webinar to help my mom who has been a business owner for many years (25 years of an interior furnishings/custom window treatments) but now wants to switch gears into something that could use her business-minded skills but she may not have experience in the exact industry she's looking for. The switch is motivated by more certainty and being able to carve off some of the work of owning a business that she's not very interested in anymore. How can she create the narrative for herself that makes sense and is compelling to businesses? She's in her mid-50s if that's helpful.
What’s the best way to present a job where you have two very different roles (diversity & inclusion and database developer, for example)?
It seems harder to switch industries I feel locked into my current industry and I want out, is there a different strategy for industry switching job seekers
If looking to relocate, do you need to mention that in your resume? Do people still put physical addresses on resumes?
How to present the double job I’ve held on my resume when applying to a role that is focused on one role. It sounds like two resumes is good. Should I list responsibilities, etc. for both roles under one “position” on LinkedIn?
Current titles: Diversity Engineer and Database Developer. I perform both roles, in tandem.
Can you tell us more about what you do? And how you can help further with resume building and cover letter writing?
What makes a good cover letter? Is it important to address a specific person?
same question as above on the cover letter; whom to address to, what to highlight
Slides please! :)
Can/will you send out the slides afterwards?
Thanks for joining us all today :) Sophie from Tech Ladies
