Q: What has become YOUR narrative (Mindy and Courtney) for what makes a “good” school (vs the narrative you hear from white families around you)?
Kristen Nelson
01:27:53
that is my new favorite quote
Kristen Nelson
01:28:13
“what makes a great school is that it has kids in it”

01:29:34 Jessica Carda-Auten: As we integrate schools, how do we make sure we’re not “colonizing”? What are some strategies you’ve used (Courtney and Mindy) for this?
Tena Stromgren
01:32:02
Mindy touched on this, but I’m wondering for both women, what has this experience been like for your children? How are they processing and communicating their school experience?
Meagan Schultz
01:36:37
Q: How do you answer the parents/families who say “love the idea of integrated schools but don’t want my kid to be a guinea pig?”
Unknown Speaker
00:00
01:49:17 Jessica Carda-Auten: Have either of you actively tried to get other families in your neighborhoods to attend these integrated/neighborhood schools and, if so, what did that look like?
Courtney Everts Mykytyn
01:53:04
MeganT… what Mindy and her ppl are doing in Houston is a great example! If you’re on FB, check out HISD Parent Advocates...
Bryce Lyle
01:53:37
How do you talk to typical white parents about issues of race and privilege and priorities without sounding sanctimonious?

finding integrated schools was life-changing for me! (my kids 15&18) have attended minority-white schools. we had great experiences. but felt very alone until we found integrated schools.
