Academic Senate for CCC

Can you define "Communcation Faculty"?
Academic Senate for CCC
30:39
Using your subject matter experts to support your strategic goals
Academic Senate for CCC
30:40
Communications discipline faculty have experience with student engagement through public speaking activities.
Academic Senate for CCC
31:43
We often bring in consultants and overlook the faculty we have that are subject matter experts, which could give us much more buy in on campus and much broader involvement

Differentiated Orientation?
Academic Senate for CCC
37:40
Some are online, videos, face-to-face, at night, early morning for athletes, social and behavioral sciences, etc.
Academic Senate for CCC
38:22
Most colleges aleady have special orientations for categorical programs and international students

Apply now
Academic Senate for CCC
44:50
Thanks Luke. Does that communicate an asusmption that a student already knows what they want to study?
Academic Senate for CCC
45:17
Thanks Lisa. I like the mission-driven approach ot your site
Luke Lara
45:44
The message is - You have dreams and goals, make it happen, apply now, enroll now
Academic Senate for CCC
46:55
Thanks Luke. a good question to ask of students is whether they have a clear sense of their dreams and goals when they click that apply now button
Luke Lara
49:53
Our guided pathways info is not even listed on our website's landing page.
Academic Senate for CCC
50:24
luke has there been discussion around it?
Academic Senate for CCC
51:23
Dave, do you have a pan to evaluate in some way?
Kristi Wish
52:18
Luke, I can only find it through the search option.
Luke Lara
55:28
Kristi, our guided pathways site for students has been available for a year. It has only been "linked" to the website since early fall. But it is not accessible if you open the menu and know what you are looking for. I believe it is "hidden" in this way because we still do not have a comprehensive culture around gp on our campus for faculty, staff, and students.
Kristi Wish
56:36
Thanks Luke

Luke, I think a lot of colleges are doing it for this reason
Academic Senate for CCC
01:00:08
Part of the problem is that many colleges view Guided Pathways as the "Pathways"
Randy Beach
01:00:25
yes soe colleges use either word Great question
Academic Senate for CCC
01:00:28
We are trying to get institutions to see that it is a journey, not a destination
Academic Senate for CCC
01:00:43
Yes, Lisa. Fields of study, Areas of Interest, or Career and Academic Pathways are some of the variations for naming meta-majors
Academic Senate for CCC
01:01:25
Guided Pathways is more that the paths themselves
Academic Senate for CCC
01:01:51
so some colleges won't change anything unless they have pathways to add to the website
Academic Senate for CCC
01:02:43
There is onboarding, intervention, integration, intercollege communication, etc
Academic Senate for CCC
01:03:04
so many other things that are important to Guided Pathways and student success
Academic Senate for CCC
01:12:39
Thanks Lisa
Academic Senate for CCC
01:12:52
I think it is just a matter of communication
Academic Senate for CCC
01:13:15
I also think colleges' feel rushed because of AB705
Academic Senate for CCC
01:13:48
We are worried about how to tell students which math and English to take, which depends on which path they are on.

01:14:18
Thanks
