Hi All - would be great to hear where you're calling in from and what you're most excited about with the webinar today and how you plan to use SeedLinked!
Sarah Hargreaves
01:11:28
I’d love to share SeedLinked with farmer-researchers doing variety trials and breeding trials as part of EFAO’s Farmer-Led Research Program. To make it easier for farmers and as a way for us all to see and share the data!
Rosina
01:12:11
I’m calling in from Richmond, as a Sustainable Agriculture student at KPU. I’m interested in seeing if our program can use this platform for our own seed trials, and I’m also interested in using this platform on my own future farm!
Kendra Heffelman

My brother lives in Viroqua, WI. Small world
maricas

I'm participating in Citizen Seed Trial, from Fernie Community EcoGarden and Our Cold Climate Seed Library, both activities of Wildsight Elk Valley

As participants in a trial, can we add varieties, or is that only possible for the trial manager to do? Example - for the pepper trial I am wanting to track an additional variety to the 5 that are officially included
Chris Thoreau - FFCF
01:30:42
Only Nico can add vareities at this point - we can help faciltiate getting that info to him in the proper form for easy entry
Kendra Heffelman
01:31:13
Will we need to add pictures
Rebecca
01:31:18
Will you show us how to set up a trail network? for example, could the five farmers here in Ontario who are breeding a new pepper use this platform to record data?
Robert Cline
01:32:25
For vegetables that require planting indoors, such as basil, before being planted in the garden what is planting date?
Rebecca
01:33:33
Thank you, Niko.
Rebecca
01:34:45
So the rating is out of 5 stars for each category?
Chris Thoreau - FFCF
01:34:54
Yes
Rebecca
01:35:28
and these stars are relative to what? to each of the other varieties or checks?
Chris Thoreau - FFCF
01:35:55
We will cover this coming up
Chris Thoreau - FFCF
01:36:49
The way we are doing it for Citizen Seed is: Based on this trait, how likely are you to grow this variety again? Rate from 1 to 5.
Rebecca
01:37:40
hum. Intersting. Thank you, Chris
Kendra Heffelman
01:38:35
Will we need to upload photos?
Chris Thoreau - FFCF
01:40:27
Photos are optional but appreciated! Will ask next...
Kendra Heffelman
01:40:47
Thx as I don’t see a way to upload them
Rebecca
01:43:21
Niko and Chris, can you remind me if Regional coordinators for the Bauta program will have access to the Trail manager account to view the group data even if they are not doing to trails themselves?
shannongiebelhaus
01:44:05
Is this going to be used specifically by organic growers? As of course methods would affect the growing success and could skew ratings, etc.
Chris Thoreau - FFCF
01:44:59
Growers will be able to see results when they end hte trial - but not through the Trial Manger account. We wil still cover data analysis and results...
Kendra Heffelman
01:45:06
I keep hearing about an app, but I can’t find one. What is it called?
Chris Thoreau - FFCF
01:45:29
Shannon - SeedLInked will be for both organic and conventional growers
Chris Thoreau - FFCF
01:46:24
App is still in development for mobiel and tablets so data must currently be added to desktop version
Kendra Heffelman
01:46:40
Thx
karen kellett
01:51:59
can I get that info for my region only?
Tiffany Traverse
01:52:49
Tech issue...my location doesn’t seem to be appearing on that maps on either of the trials I’m in even though my address is good in both.
Chris Thoreau - FFCF
01:53:32
I'll follow up on that Tiffany...
craig
01:54:56
for plants started indoors, should the planting date be when seeds are started or when transplants are set out?
Chris Thoreau - FFCF
01:55:19
Craig - you can record both
Chris Thoreau - FFCF
01:55:27
We covered this earlier
craig
01:55:40
ah ok sorry… missed some of the beginning
Rebecca
01:55:57
So for unnamed varieties still in the breeding stage we would need to contact you to add a link to the variety tab?
Chris Thoreau - FFCF
01:57:10
Yes - they need to be "assigned" a name but anything can be entered. We did this for the Citizen Seed Trial with varieties #1, #2, #3, and #4.
Kendra Heffelman
01:57:31
This is really helpful!
Kendra Heffelman
01:58:03
I have only looked at this site on my phone, which is not as good as the site.
Rebecca
01:59:09
can a trail manager download the data somehow to work with for a poster or something?
Thomas Hickey
02:06:00
When a breeding line is released with a variety name, will the data points be linked or analyzed separately?
Tiffany Traverse
02:06:15
Is there a way to organize a private trial, to be released later, once completed?
karen kellett
02:06:27
so, am I correct that it is possible for me to enter my vegetable garden varieties as a new trial, mark it as private and track and record my own garden records?
Rebecca
02:06:50
I know this is still at the early stages of development, but to clarify, you are willing to host trails beyond the BC seed trail and the CANOVI trials?
Tiffany Traverse
02:11:49
Totally understandable! This would just be such a powerful tool for rare grow-out projects such as for SSE, Seeds of Diversity, etc. Thanks!
Angie Koch
02:12:41
I've just been looking through for some lettuce varieties that I'm trialing with an Ecological Farmers Assoc of Ontario trial and quite a few of them aren't there.
Angie Koch
02:12:49
Can you remind me what the process was to add a new variety?

I look forward perhaps next year to enouraging the local master gardeners group, of which I am a member, to engage in seed trials through this format for the benefit of our local growers.
karen kellett
02:15:56
Chris perhaps we can put you to work to create that in future.

02:16:47
Really intuitive program, I’m pumped to see where it goes! Thanks Nico and Chris!
