I'd like to know what qualifications were under consideration for choosing these groups.

How is diversity being considered.

Excited about the UM Forward to hear voices that are marginalized to inform and shape our future as a new church. Concerned about the UM Next not hearing the marginalized voice. What is the possibility of the Western Jurisdiction of moving forward and separating into a new expression with legislation for this annual conferences.?

Response to Mariah’s question: The UM-Forward event and movement is open and everyone self-selected to come to be apart of this effort. NO selection process except those that folks made to be here or not

I think 'self-selection' is part of our problem. The privilege that comes with main stream voices includes economic privilege, etc. Who's not at the table? They're not coming to the table just because they're invited.

Is Bishop Karen going to be removed? She was elected prior to the General Conference.

No but she wiill undoubtedly be brought up on charges.

/what is best way or possible ways for lay people to have conversations with the bishops? Or our bishop? And second question is how will info get back to local churches after the UMC Forward and UMC Next meetings?

While I realize this is a question for further in the future, is there anything we can be thinking about now to secure our local church assets (building, funds ….) if our church leaves the United Methodist Church?

I get this question a lot: when is the hard stop for progressives in engaging the general church and just plan on forming a new denomination? 2020? 2024? Before the year is over?

thank you Izzy! This is what my congregations is asking. They are done with the establishment and are ready to start something new.

I appreciate this distinction. We're lumping centrists and progressives and that's a stretch some times.

How do we continue the work of GBGM. UMCOR, and other amazing global mission work in "a new expression of Methodism"?

The labels centrist and progressive can be really a binary way of labeling people and groups…

What about the Western Jurisdiction Conference to elect Bishops in 2020? Will we still have 5 Bishops?

To Epworth---There may be alternatives to our general boards and agencies that are more suited to the 21st century---eliminating the high cost of staff and buildings to a great degree. Imagine a Church that is run through Advances.

looking into disaffiliation can be a great way to show your bishop you are serious about progressive movement!

Don't the churches also have to pay 12 months prior and 12 months forward in their apportionments to be able to disaffilate? And according to the GCFA document, church conferences or annual conferences could vote NO to allow a church to disaffiliate, correct??

I want to really evangelize this -- affiliate with WJ. Blow conference lines out of the water.
