I like the idea of monitoring tasks specifically geared to years w/o state summative.

40:28
I also like the rationale for each component....definitely helps take care of the whole picture..
Marcia.Barton
40:30
Are teachers developing the tasks for the task library? How are the tasks vetted?
rmcentyr
41:00
I'm jealous about being able to develop a task library. We've had to stop our development after 1 1/2 years so it's not nearly as robust as we had envisioned.
Kevin Anderson
42:13
One possibility - a SCASS group might try to create a mega-task library pulling from states and other groups across the country. We're pretty limited in WI with what we've created...
Lizette Burks
42:13
Marcia Kansas is partnering with NE for aspects of the task library. We have groups of educators that went through a training and we are working with an assessment developer. We plan on getting student work to support the tasks and through this process we will vet.
Marcia.Barton
42:38
Thank you, Liz!

I like your idea, Kevin.
Lizette Burks
44:46
Me too Rae!
Kerri Wingert
44:56
Another thumbs-up from me to the idea of a mega-library! These tasks are incredibly difficult to write well, so sharing would be wonderful.
rmcentyr
45:23
Sounds like it's up to you, as president Kevin, to coordinate :-)
cmw84828
46:03
Agreed...thumbs-up to a mega library
Kevin Anderson
46:11
Perhaps some sort of crowd-sourcing to provide comments on these tasks as well in the library - usage success stories, amendments, sharing work samples, etc.
Kevin Anderson
46:37
I'll start working on it, Rae! :)
Tamara Heck
47:08
Michigan has started the assessment development process with teachers for local use too. We have tasks that need to be used and revised.
Kevin Anderson
48:13
We at least have a boat...
rmcentyr
50:11
Based on what was just said, tests weren't helpful in monitoring assessment, whatever task bank is developed Ithink we need to keep in mind the PURPOSE of the tasks; what are they designed to measure. Is it about components of standards? Provide info about curriculum? what exactly?
Lizette Burks
50:52
This is the training KS joined in NE with these amazing experts! It is nice to have a base to work from so we are on the same page before creating!
Kerri Wingert

Michelle McCarthy, MT Office of Public Instruction
51:29
Montana has a repository developed by teachers - we are still working on reviewing and vetting these formative assessments so that they are in a familiar workable format.
Lizette Burks
51:41
Agreed Rae!
Megan Cannon
51:50
Love that! I’d love to hear more about their experience learning how to identify facets
Kevin Anderson
52:08
Facet analysis training would be awesome...
Molly Mund
52:22
I second that. I'd love to see some kind of facet analysis training.
rmcentyr
53:34
James, is it easy for you to name which horse evolution task you used? As I recall we had two different ones in our bank.
Kevin Anderson
53:44
ACESSE has module F for Facet Analysis - soon to be publicly released (Kerri would likely share a link to the draft?). I'd like this for my educators.
Lizette Burks
54:36
Kerri W. is an amazing support for facet analysis. The ACESSE resources come from her classroom! The STT is out for now...http://stemteachingtools.org/brief/37
Kerri Wingert
54:45
Facets have been so helpful to me in my own “journey” of assessment, too! You should drop me a note at kerri.wingert@colorado.edu if you want additional support.
Cora James

Bill P. did a facet training at the midwest collaboration. He may have it available for sharing.

Amplify?
Kevin Anderson
01:05:00
I've used the Buck Institute materials as part of work in several PBL workshops I've facilitated - think they're good. Several districts in WI have checked out Discovery Techbook, some liking it and some not so much... I suggest a rigorous review, like with NEXT Gen Time.
Dr. Amy Himes
01:05:22
Thank you
Kevin Anderson
01:08:20
A couple of our big district - Madison and Kenosha - have adopted Amplify. Email me and I'll give you emails for their science leads (kevin.anderson@dpi.wi.gov).

Next NSELA Webinar…..Date: November 7, 2018 6:00 PM ESTPresenters: Ann Hammersly, David Carter, Gary MyersTitle: Three Dimensional Learning Using Data Collection TechnologyData logging allows students to collect experimental data quickly and efficiently so that classroom emphasis can shift to more important functions - asking new questions, extending experiments, and analyzing results using appropriate mathematical tools. Many studies that can’t be done with traditional experimental equipment become possible with the right tools. This webinar will emphasize how technology can assist teachers in the development of three dimensional classroom activities.
