Should I do an away at a program I am interested in early or late
Chris George
57:34
Applying to programs gets expensive, as a US-IMG should I even bother applying to programs that have not accepted IMG students in the previous 3 years or so? Also is there anything else a US-IMG can do to be more competitive other than the advice you have already offered?
Hangouts Moderator

How many VSAS programs should you apply for if you only plan to do 1 away?

When choosing an away rotation, what should we place the greatest priority on? a site that will give a good SLOE, learning opportunity, potential residency site, other?
Alaleh
01:03:21
Do you look at recommendation letters other than SLOEs? Do you recommend that we get a letter from physicians other than those specializing in EM? I am asking about letters other than the MSPE.
Alaleh
01:04:00
And how many SLOEs do you recommend we have when applying?

For those couples matching (EM and Peds), is it more advantageous to get SLOEs from an area of the country with a higher density of programs (NE) vs programs in the Western US

If we haven't done research in EM, and we don't rotate on it until fourth year, how do we show we're interested in EM so that we're competitive applicants for the match?

As a follow up to what Dr. Takacs said earlier. I cannot reschedule my core EM rotation at my home institution from Feb 2018 (I am applying for 2018 Match). Will my first EM audition’s program understand that and be more forgiving in the beginning of the rotation and judge based on the growth over the month? Or should I schedule a site I am not actually interested in applying to for residency?

01:08:51
Can you speak to how much weight you give to couples matching?

Do you foresee more ACGME residency directors becoming more familiar with using COMLEX as a metric for the DO candidate instead of requiring both sets of exams?
Elizabeth Calhoun - FSU COM
01:09:06
IF you have small children/young baby holding you home, is it helpful to coordinate weekends at a program you're interested in? Does this restriction make it near impossible to get an interview at a competative program?
Mina Salib
01:10:13
If someone doesn’t have time to do a full rotation, but is still interested in a program or rotation what would you suggest? Shadowing
Daniel Bral

If you apply to more than 1 program, how long can one hold onto a spot at one institution while waiting for a more preferred option without being unprofessional?

I was able to get an EM rotation at a community hospital at the beginning of 3rd year. Would this count as one of the EM rotations even though it wasn’t in my 4th year?

Daniel Bral

Should we contact program directors before applying for an away to see if they do group SLOE's or individual or should we wait until accepted? Is there another way to find out this information?
