Hello!
Kate Soriano
01:12:44
Q & A for participantsslides.app.goo.gl/f75D7
Sarah Ludwig
01:13:23
How do we get there?
Claire Fornsel
01:13:23
ok
Michelle Phillips
01:13:26
thumbs up
Christine Royce
01:13:29
Yes -- thanks Jessica
Janeth Rios
01:13:30
yes
Kate Soriano

DrJenn51
01:13:37
thumbs up!
Katrina Lee
01:13:39
👍🏻
Laverne Davis
01:13:40
thumbs up
Andrea
01:13:51
You are going very fast.
Malcolm Pringle
01:14:19
I put a thumbs up in the participants list in my Zoom screen — do you monitor that?
Kate Soriano
01:14:59
@Malcolm, we're monitoring chat, participant window and the google Q & A we have you covered
Katherine Prammer
01:16:03
Would we need to send teh link to our students, or do we create a button on a slide with teh link?
Katherine Prammer
01:16:52
The link for the QA palel
Kate Soriano
01:17:20
@Katherine, you do have to send students the link
Katherine Prammer
01:17:44
Ok- so the link automatically shows up on student screens
Virginia Hohl
01:17:53
Tell again how to turn on closed caption
Kate Soriano
01:17:54
Yes
Malcolm Pringle
01:18:32
Is it always a slides.app.gl/xxxxx link? Or is that something you make??
Malcolm Pringle
01:18:55
*slides.app.goo.gl
Kate Soriano
01:18:58
It's always slides.app.goo.gl/xxxx
Michelle Phillips
01:19:47
If you have a MacBook you can record your screen using 'command 5' and it creates an mp4.
Malcolm Pringle
01:19:48
So students only really need the specific xxx, once they get used to it??
Katherine Prammer
01:20:19
If you exit the document, is teh history saved until you press reset teh next time you open the doc?
Kate Soriano
01:20:20
Thanks, @Michelle! I did not know that.
Kate Soriano
01:24:29
That
Kate Soriano
01:24:56
That's a great point, Jess. Copy and past an image of directions so they can't be altered.
Malcolm Pringle
01:27:49
I do that all the time — and that is especially important for Jamboard. Even have students do there models/drawings/explanations in something like Google Drawing, save as a jpeg or png, and insert that in the Jamboard — then other students can’t change the initial work (by mistake?) when you are doing a gallery walk later!
Ambra Hook
01:31:02
How do you know which student made which observation?
Ambra Hook
01:32:33
Ok Thanks
Christine Royce
01:32:45
Docuviz is a great add on as well that will tell you how much was done by each student and what was changed by each student.
Malcolm Pringle
01:33:08
We gotta lobby Google to add Version History to Jamboard !!! Maybe NSTA can do that for all of us ???
Malcolm Pringle
01:33:20
(That’s a hint, Kate …)
Kate Soriano
01:33:26
@Christine, does Docuviz work in all browsers?
Katherine Prammer
01:33:54
Are there some color used in the history that we should avoid using in slide boxes?
DrJenn51
01:33:58
That would be so helpful! I learn SO much about quality teaching in a virtual environment from these NSTA presentations.
Ambra Hook
01:34:08
yes
Kate Soriano
01:35:02
Google doc for participantshttps://docs.google.com/document/d/1Aq6Snfz-tHvp25OwqWWIMhvCHHPtFUWg57iMvd1Wvs0/template/preview
Kate Soriano
01:35:48
You have to open the document in GOOGLE CHROME
Kate Soriano
01:36:04
NP!
Laverne Davis
01:38:07
I am glad to have joined this session.
Kate Soriano
01:38:29
Great to hear, Laverne!
Virginia Hohl
01:38:36
Can I use the voice typing over Zoom? Like they answer and Google will hear it and type it in my doc (not a shared doc)
Kate Soriano
01:38:50
Read & Write extension is linked in the Google doc
Malcolm Pringle
01:39:45
Is R&W for Google still free for teachers but paid for students?
Ambra Hook
01:40:27
Would it read a PDF that you brought into a google doc?
Malcolm Pringle
01:41:22
The last I checked, teachers can R&W for Google (premium, I think) get it free, to learn it and try it out.
Katherine Prammer
01:43:03
Khmer
Malcolm Pringle
01:43:44
Yes — back in 2014/15 when I was in Boston, the Boston Tech folks sort of asked we teachers and special ed teachers to write R&W for Google into IEPs and 504s, which helped them justify getting a license for the whole BPS district.
Katherine Prammer
01:44:02
amazing
Laverne Davis
01:45:25
Awesome
DrJenn51
01:45:40
This is great!
Anne Lewerenz -E
01:45:41
Control Will the google read, read other languages?
Charlotte Wheeless
01:45:55
I had no idea the translate tool was available! Game changer!
Katherine Prammer
01:45:58
Is the Spanish translation accurate without review required?
Anne Lewerenz -E
01:46:05
thanks
Kate Soriano
01:46:51
@Katherine, we've been copying and pasting the translated version into an online translator to check accuracy - has been very close - spot - on in most cases
Kate Soriano
01:47:56
Well, in most of the cases we tested - Spanish, Hmong, Korean, Arabic
Kate Soriano
01:48:10
we didn't notice any difference
Malcolm Pringle
01:48:18
I also use Google Translate, in a separate browser window, to put, for example, both English and Spanish in Jamboard directions, or a Kahoot Activity.

Sarah Ludwig
01:51:09
This is so cool
Malcolm Pringle
01:51:20
What are the pros and cons for using the drawing option from within Google Docs, versus the standalone Google Drawings (say, providing links to templates).
Kate Soriano
01:52:28
@Malcolm, another pro is you keep the students on one document - not taking time moving back and forth between documents
Sarah Ludwig
01:52:49
Can the draw thing work with google slides?
Kate Soriano
01:53:15
@Sarah, you have to import the drawing into the slides
Malcolm Pringle
01:58:00
Sorry, I came in a few minutes late. Could you share the link to the Slide Deck again (not the Q&A)?
M_aHandler-Ruiz
01:58:08
Only substitute the word edit?
Kate Soriano
01:58:47
Yes, you can actually delete to the last backslash like Jess is showing and adding the word "copy"
M_aHandler-Ruiz
01:58:48
will it work if you eliminate the words after edit as well?
Kate Soriano
01:58:52
Yes
Kate Soriano
01:59:23
I have included examples on the PowerPoint slides which we will share with you
M_aHandler-Ruiz
01:59:35
