has the district asked King County Mmetro for supplemental drivers? perhaps thMetro could reduce service on some routes to temporarily lend out a few drivers?
Janis White
01:54:25
Generally, in SPS students who receive special education services through the Resource service model do not have transportation as a related service in their IEPs.
Sebrena Burr SCPTSA FACE; Healing Centered Engage/Anti-racism
01:55:12
Brian Duncan, KC Metro are short on drivers as well. The thing with drivers is they do have to be trained and that takes time.
Janis White
01:56:03
Also many high school and middle school students rely on Metro buses to get to school.

Are their any recommendations on collective action we can take to put pressure on our leaders to find solutions to this issue? For example, who would we write to to request that the national guard be brought in to help with bus transport?
Lisa Rivera-Smith (she/her)
02:04:12
It takes about 4 weeks to get trained and licensed to drive a bus

02:06:01
One wonders if the number of students who are unable to get to school is very large and there no obvious solutions whether the District will have to expand remote options in order to educate students.
Alyssa Hays
02:06:13
Metro is already cutting routes because light rail has opened and the driver shortages, it would be a good time for us to advocate hard for them to LOOK at the routes and address transportation deserts

I asked the district to send the driver positions links out to our tens of thousands of families. I said, “Giving our tens of thousands of families a link to the job posting might actually go a long way! We need to utilize and empower our community to share this fight with us, because I think we'll be amazed what we can all do together.”
Heather Hart, Secretary SCPTSA
02:09:06
@Lisa, yes! Someone on council also has pushed for that
Sarah Dillard
02:10:18
Hi everyone, I’d like to add to the dialogue: at Madison Middle School in West Seattle, the metro bus doesn’t run a direct route to our students with the greatest need for transportation- metro bus isn’t an option for us unfortunately! Also please note that our bus riders are physically separated from the school by natural barriers (hills and valleys) so walking or biking riding isn’t possible. For our school bussing is critical to serving our large (over 1,000 students this school year) and diverse population.
