Any reference or published paper to confirm that it takes Wolbachia 25 years to establish itself in the field? Thanks

And how?
Dengue Researcher

The Medical Entomology Unit at the Institute for Medical Research, Kuala Lumpur had actually successful field trialed Wolbachia carrying Aedes aegypti in 2019. The trial, conducted in 7 dengue hotspots in Selangor, had successfully reduced dengue cases up to 70%. Contrary to belief, it didn't take Wolbachia 25 years to be established in the field. Establishement of Wolbachia took only several months. Subsequently, the Deputy Prime Minister then, Datuk Azizan announced in the Parliament in 2019 that Wolbachia was incorporated into the national dengue control program, making Malaysia the first nation to scale up and operanalise Wolbachia, much earlier than many other countries that are still struggling to complete the trial. The launching of the Wolbachia control program was by the then MOH in July 2019, and as a result more 30 dengue hotspots in Selangor, KL, Penang and Kelantan have been treated. The release of Wolbachia carrying Ae aegypti is still ongoing , and early results indicated encouraging results.

In addition, the IMR research team led by Dr Nazni in collaboration with the IAEA International Atomic Energy Agency also embarks on the application of SIT Sterile Insect Techniques, by sterilising male Ae aegypti using gamma ray irradiation and releasing them into the field to mate with the wild females. The sterile eggs that are laid subsequently could not hatch. Sustained release of sterile males over several months could crush the Aedes population, and thus interrupt dengue transmission. Field trials in Malacca in fact proved that SIT reduced and even eliminated dengue
