This is Rachel Mercer. She is a wonderful artist and we recommend checking out her work. @rachelmercerartist
Self-portraiture looking at weird perspectives!
Rachel will be going back to basics with pencil. You can use whatever materials you like.
Rachel will begin with a continuous line drawing. Keep your pencil in contact with the paper
Don’t take your tool off the paper
Allowing the pen to move across the paper intuitively.
Look at shapes in relation to other shapes
for example the nostril may be very close to the eye
use your rubber to remove your drawing. until there is a ghost
look for the subtle shadows in places that form shapes
I'm drawing without my glasses, although I usually draw with them on. Bit like squinting!
I think a lot of art historians don't agree with Hockney, though
drawing from a photograph lacks life, it might be easier but actually gives a very 'simplified picture
sorry I can't use my camera at the moment
glasses off next time! thank you!
