27:00
Welcome to Civics 101 - California Propositions! We are streaming on YouTube so please share far and wide: https://youtu.be/JgrJKHhYVc0

31:33
how do we know what the research has accomplished thus far?

32:44
Do we have an approximation of the per household tax increase?

33:44
I understand that some of the research has benefited Sickle Cell improvement for African People

34:29
according to pro argument it says there have been 2,900 medical discoveries already made

35:54
And the benefits of our funding return to Californians only?

36:57
It does say we will benefit for any discovery

41:35
It sounds like if we think there is benefit to the research that we are also required to be active in creating a different impact on the back side...in the other words we have to participate in the processes to have them work for us.

42:11
The Pharmaceutical Industry’s profit margin exceeds 100% on some products and US Gov does not regulate that Industry together with Wall street, which benefits from these Pharmaceutical StartUPs and existing publicly traded companies

42:46
Also there are 11 more propositions to look at :)

42:56
we have 11 more propositions, lets move on

48:39
I got on this late. I'm assuming there's going to be a replay. Is the link going to be through the church YouTube channel?

49:24
Cedric, we are streaming live to YouTube. The link is posted above

50:02
Do we really think increasing taxes for businesses that are struggling is a good idea?

50:19
Note that only 40% of this is even slated for "schools"...and ditto what Josie is saying. Also, even given the original impact, I invite us to consider what the impact could be on our individual property taxes if this is an entrée to opening Prop 13.

50:45
Agree with Josie. Where is the money?

51:56
Any proposition that raises taxes during this pandemic is a very bad idea.. we need to get back on our feet from this pandemic before raising any tax,,

52:45
Businesses will pass their tax loss onto the consumer as part of their expenses, so will pay for this another way…… We should pause on CHANGES Of Property Taxes until COVID-19 is COMPLETE

01:00:40
league of women voters has good information on this prop 15

01:00:46
Appraisal Wise EBCRS Property Has a value that exceeds $3 M

01:01:09
thank you Amar

01:01:24
There is another prop about homeownership-prop 19- From Pat

01:02:10
Yes, this is not it!

01:03:18
we're referring to help for public schools, but charter schools are taking over public school sites

01:04:17
Prop 15’s staggered application makes it more digestible. But I agree with Josie; we need a prop to account for the education dollars from past props.

01:04:47
I joined to learn factual information. I'm sorry, at this rate, we will not get through the prop 17. Please let's move on.

01:06:03
Let Us (the community people) become politically and economically Using our Metaphysics to Cause our own Proposition suite and for to become Lobbiest for OUR OWN AGENDA

01:06:44
I like the videos Peggy has presented. anyway you can share the links or the name of the person who is presenting the info?

01:10:15
I remember hearing about this when I lived in DC.

01:11:19
changing laws don't change people hearts and minds or change systemic racism

01:11:31
Time For Us to become Lobbiest for our own Agenda and create own Props.

01:12:36
I see prop 16 is a preamble to reparations

01:13:38
only if people don't find a loop hole to get around the prop. I think it's important because it gives us a shot.

01:14:41
Can these recordings be shared with our community on facebook, email etc?

01:15:41
Debora - the session is being live streamed on YT and will be available for future viewing

01:16:11
the future viewing is my question

01:16:26
I heard that which ever city the prison are located in that city gets to count the inmates as part of their census

01:17:10
so that city gets more funding

01:17:25
People on parole can be allowed to vote…yes to voting

01:17:31
I don’t have the link to the videos Peggy is using but CalMatters offers a similar series of 1-min explainer videos: https://calmatters.org/election-2020-guide/

01:20:39
Do we know Where is Peggy getting the videos

01:22:59
TRUTH!

01:23:11
can you show the numbers again

01:25:14
It makes it tricky because most of the housing wealth is not in the POC community

01:25:31
What about the people impacted by the fires that need to find a new residence?

01:25:37
I like the idea of keeping the taxes low for older people. I wish they could also keep them low if I want to rent my current house, if I move out. Also, if the money goes to fire fighting, that would be helpful, as I don't think the fires will be going away.

01:26:11
League of women voters opposes and gives an analysis

01:26:15
AFFORDABLE OR LOW COST HOUSING!

01:26:43
how would this impact gentrification?

01:27:32
good questions!

01:29:20
Prop 20 HELL NO

01:29:58
I'm with you Kimberly. HELL NO!!!!

01:30:20
Good information!

01:30:30
Thank you Kimberly for that!

01:36:39
But if you are a renter, your landlord can harass you to move out in hopes of receiving a higher paying renter

01:38:10
As well as Richmond and Emeryville

01:38:35
4 props to go and 12 minutes. We can do it!

01:38:36
Gentrification

01:38:46
I’m wondering why the age of the house is a factor?

01:40:32
A lot of slum lords are pushing people out to receive higher rent for sub-par apartments

01:44:52
Crazy!!!!!

01:46:45
It sounds like it, 22, would work the same way that temp agencies (do they still exist--LOL) use to work.

01:47:18
It looks like Lyft and Uber are the primary supporters

01:48:20
Would love to hear from some of the folks on the call who have driven for Lyft and Uber...

01:48:30
CA Labor Federation opposes

01:50:03
SIEU opposes Prop 22

01:51:40
Thank you LaToya.

01:52:26
no for me

01:52:51
So it sounds like ONLY Lyft and Uber would be exempted from AB5 if this passes.

01:53:44
Lola, please go next

01:54:25
This is it! The gig economy is robbing the poor and making uber rich billionaires.

01:55:12
Uber/Lyft = Sharecropping. Very Interesting.

01:56:31
Note: Passage of this WILL NOT repeal AB5, except for these companies.

01:56:44
yes or no??? on 22. it’s confusing to me what’s beneficial to the drivers.

01:58:07
Question: Is the overall economy situated in a way that there are enough safety nets in place for people who are trying to work these as full time jobs? Especially health coverage.

01:59:01
As a past driver the expense of doing the job does not pay your lively hood cost

01:59:28
so LaToya you’re a no right

01:59:45
Very helpful information everyone. Thank you.

02:00:31
Prop 21 = Y or N ? Please?

02:01:26
In my opinion: Uber and Lyft should be "required' if that's possible... to train on being a small business owner and safety

02:02:00
Does anyone have people that use these facilities?

02:03:10
THIS IS ABOUT PROFITS FOR DAVITA

02:03:17
THANK YOU ZEE!!! I needed to understand.

02:03:31
THANK YOU

02:03:35
Yes, Thank you Zee!

02:03:56
Thank you!

02:04:10
Agree. The additional requirement may prevent accessibility

02:04:38
Harriet...is Davita for or against?

02:06:48
THANK YOU EBCRS THIS HAS BEEN SUCH RICH CONVERSATION!!

02:07:18
The passage of Prop 23 will close dialysis centers. There have not been major problems with centers. I was a social worker for many years in Ala county. Many of my clients were on dialysis. None of them suffered from poor care

02:08:37
@Kimberly, why will centers close? Why are Davita and Fresenius so opposed to having a medical doctor on premises??

02:10:51
truth!!

02:10:53
I agree with Zee’s analysis. Nurses association are also opposed and california Medical association

02:12:17
That is an excellent find. Thank you so very much Precious

02:12:26
Great insight Precious!

02:12:58
wow!!!!!

02:14:26
I trust the ACLU in this one.

02:14:32
If there's some deeper analysis on those 52 pages...somewhere!

02:14:33
It may be also include a who sets up and staffs the agency....

02:15:01
It is important to note the pro and con supporters!!!!

02:15:03
and Delores Huerta opposes Prop 24

02:16:05
Barbara Lee says No on #24

02:16:10
Thank you, Annie, for catching that.

02:16:15
Thank you Beloveds for sharing this information..I appreciate your attention to the details..blessings

02:17:39
YEAH!...East Bay Lobby!

02:18:51
NAACP says No on 25

02:21:12
Yep, that is the crazy called california initiative process.

02:22:58
Thank you for shining the light on these propositions…

02:24:59
Lola, why does the NAACP say No on 25?

02:26:40
Human Rights Watch opposes prop 25

02:28:09
this is confusing.

02:28:59
article is at hrw.org Yes decision are based on algorithm (sp?)

02:30:04
There are 'INNOCENT' people waiting for trial, sometimes for a year, because they CANNOT afford bail.

02:30:21
League of Women Voters supports prop 25

02:30:37
this is really confsing

02:31:58
I agree Kimberly.

02:31:59
Thanks so much Peggy and SAM .. This has been a most productive time to help each of us make wise decisions about how we will vote. A wonderful discussion many powerful ideas shared. Rev. FranCione

02:32:28

02:35:38

02:36:20
We all have a lot of research to do!

02:36:38
Rev. Gil, your hair has gotten so long!

02:37:33
tHIS IS A CAIFORNIA PROPOSITION AND WE'RE SPEAKING ABOUT OUR EXPERIENCES IN ALCO. WE HAVE A RACIST DA AND A CORRUPT OPD.

02:37:37
Thank you so much for hosting!

02:37:54
I also say no on this one.....pay the bail.

02:39:06
People have stayed in County jails here in California / Bay Area for YEARS awaiting trial

02:39:42
I am absolutely against cash bail AND I am really concerned how decisions about who is and is not eligible for bail will be determined

02:39:45
Thank you Ona. That helps a lot.

02:39:46
This is magnificent and I am so grateful! I would have never understood these propositions without this SAM Process! Thank you all so very much! I feel like my vote my count for something this time! Y’all ROCK…. <3
