I want to convey my best wishes to the family. For a time Sherwood and I were colleagues teaching at the Belz School of Music at Yeshiva University, he the master of Ashenazi hazzanut while I was teaching Western Sephardic. Sherwood was always exceedingly kind to me. He would never hesitate to go out of his way when needed. I admired his professionalism, and most of all the quality of his deep humanity and spirituality. I looked up to him; he was a role model. And during the ensuing years, whenever I would remember him, I would think, “This was a mensch.”Sincerely,Charles Gourgey
