Grant MacDonald - Governance Workshop for NS Trails - Shared screen with speaker view
Can you describe the difference between charitable and non-for-profit status?
Can you explain what D&O Liability Insurance means?
Michael your mic is live. Could you please mute it. Thanks!
What are good time frames for strat plans
can you explain the concept of a mixed board
EG working with staff
What are the implications of having members but not an elected Director as committee members/chairs
will they covered un D&O insurance?
Do standing committees need to be described or designated in the by-laws
interested in getting the info on a annual board calendar
what do you think about work plans
see above as it relates to board chair, working board with staff
For the non financial issues in a meeting, I as chair, will just seek general consensus and have it recorded that way.
Also interested in getting a soft copy of this presentation
Would you encourage co-chairs?
Co chair or chair/vice chair?
Do you encourage limited terms of serving as directo (say 6 years with a break required?
Thank you I have to run
How do you deal, when planning, with different funders timelines. For example HRM requests submissions in Sept, PNS just requested for the same period for their submissions (with a different format)
Grant has a lot of resources on his website. governing good.ca
Position of past president, benefit and burden
NS Trails will be posting its new policy manual to its website. Within it will be lots of great policy templates you can use for your organizations.
How to best use ex-officio, explain meaning and voting rights,
If elected yearly do you need to worry about the6 year rule for a position on the Board?
As a suggestion - our group recently had an HRM Community Development lady come and do a workshop on planning for volunteer and community engagement - very good morning
CHPTA has a one year term. Every AGM there is a new election
Any thoughts on benefits, burdens of combining sec treasurer
most of our Directors are multiple year despite the oone year term
With the complicated requirements from NSRJSC, CRA and funders - not a good idea to combine secretary treasurer
is there a legal ramification of having a non financial person as treasurer and a bookeeper do everything
any thoughts on board accountability code of conduct
There was an earlier question about the difference (if any) between a charity and a "not for profit"
One other question was - Can you explain what D&O Liability Insurance means?
Capacity building is a challenge for many trails groups - social media, mapping and so on. Governance is perhaps the easier aspect until we need to create 'community' for our public. How can we build training in to board activity, given everyone is so busy these days. Will there be workshops that NSTF can hold going forward?
Thanks for sharing, I was not aware of these.
D&O insurance pricing is based the amount of assets and the amount of money flowing through your organization. Under $50,000 can be as low as $200 a year.
Thank you Grant! We appreciate you doing this for us!!
Thank you very good presentation of information.
Thanks! Excellent - well done.
