will we get your slides in future ... email ..??
yes, at times it was hard to manage
Both for me
I have difficulty motivating students
I struggle with the management
sticking with a routine
Yes, managing since our principal is having teachers lead instead of students
Much meaning! Management issues!
Yes…assessment/accountability is a struggle.
Students are used to us giving them the info. I struggle with them searching for their passions.
Passion, Plan, Pitch, Project, Product, Presentation
Sometimes kids seem to pick ideas related to social issues that they don’t really relate to. They think the ideas sound good but then there is no joy in their work.
You have some great resources about the 5 P’s on Thrively.com right now.
Hard time getting students to narrow down their thoughts to less global ideas...
I missed 2 Cs
Collaboration, Communication, Creativity, Critical Thinking, Reflection
It's definitely a balancing game for sure
Yes…balancing everything is a challenge
Self-Awareness, Self-management, Responsible Decision Making, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills
I teach K-8 so yes...lots on my plate, plus I only have students for 40 min. per week
i feel like I am a juggler
Yes.. It’s hard to feel like I’m doing anything well with so much to do
Multi tasking... then not finishing the ideas - you can only focus on one thought at a time. ... then the other thoughts are dropped, forgotten, not finished...
And it's all the separation that makes it difficult for students to transfer skills from one academic area to another
I second Ashley Wilkinson!
How does everyone do this when they are only responsible for one subject when this idea is so integrated
Yes or its a big vague idea
Passion is the most difficult to get past.
They all want to save the world... lol
I use a heart map at the beginning of the year. They draw, add words, etc. to help them list their passions in our "get to know you" days at the beginning of the year
That really helps Andi...how it can fit into content
I think it can also help to put students in teams and have them practice these skills. Doing team challenges before. You launch into a project.
Bugs and wishes….I used to coach teachers to use a bug list…things that bug you and what I wish I could change. Works for younger kids.
Once teachers see how much students are engaged in Genius Hour they won't mind giving up control!
I used a digital journal in Google Slides to document their progress the whole way through their project.
Love the analyzing pitches
How you are really explaining the "P"s
ways to weave in SEL skills/life ready skills
Integrating other concepts is going to be vital to making it work!
biggest take away organization of the 6 p's
ELA has a mentor text standard
Helping students find their passion and differentiate between that and an interest.
reminding students to share information respectfully - to be open to different ways of thinking about their passion
Students putting standards into their own words
Has some clear parallels to the design thinking process
Yes engineering design process too…so we can dialogue with science teachers as well.
Yes, we get lost in the daily routine. I love the idea of reflection and documenting. Video, turn in talk, etc. This makes learning stick.
Ummm...Feeling like a digital 95-year-old here, but how do we scan QR codes if kids aren't allowed to have phones in class?
https://tonyv.neocities.org/reflect.html is the link for reflection qr
iPads can scan QR codes or you can use the link that was just shared.
Jennifer, a Chromebook web camera will scan QR codes too
We don't have Chromebooks. :(
Jennifer, what devices do you have with students?
We have Dell laptops, but IT is pretty tight on what apps they allow kids to use.
Yay for links!
Links for the win! Thank you!!
Thanks for the links.
They can create a digital BreakoutEDU game with their project as the theme.
The Most Magnificent Thing
What Do You Do With an Idea
KWH - Pitch
LAQ - Presentation
How can we show growth for students so we can really push transformative practices to administrators that don’t believe in PBL/GH?
Anyone have ideas or successes?
Are there any free resources?
Love the idea of weaving all the things together— Standards, SEL, life skills, 4Cs.
This has been amazing. Thank you so much
This is excellent. I think the pre - made GH projects are a great way to scaffold for teachers. Then they can edit.
Thank you for all your support!
Thanks so much for offering this GH summit!
Thank you so much! Lots of ideas to share and weave into classes.
Thank you for the encouragement and resources
This has been wonderful!
