Last week I videoed a presentation by John Strazzabosco reviewing his new book Ninety Feet Under - What Poverty Does to People. Here is a video of that presentation: https://youtu.be/yb6eu-fpUCo. The points in this presentation show all the problems that harm education in our poor school districts are tied to the devastating impact poverty has on the growing child's mind. John has been working with the Rochester Coalition for Public Education. To have a chance at making a dent in the poverty issue which impacts children's development and education, I believe, we work together with other group. such as yours.

Yes, it is great that there are so many people who are able to connect this current moment of rage over police brutality to Medicare for All, and further connect it to how we cannot work on single issues if our goal is to dismantle poverty, racism, militarism, ecological devastation. It gives me a little hope. But I am a new activist and may be naive despite my cynical disposition.

In addition to the longtime progressive taxation argument replacing flat regressive tax premiums, there is also the strong point that 1-federal government pays for whatever it wants to (security state, wall street bailout) and 2-taxes are not actually how federal government pays for things (Federal reserve and Printing press; google Stephanie Kelton, Deficit Myth, Modern Monetary Therapy).

We should support BLM and police/criminalization reform now and highlight racial disparities in healthcare in our php work. All the social justice issues are interconnected so if we succeed with police reform, other changes can follow if we all keep pressing. The Poor Peoples Campaign has the right idea.

Wonderful to hear /see you but please don’t idealize the situation in Canada. Decentralized chaos, privatized nursing homes, had to bring in the army in Quebec and Ontario, also 25% public health cuts, entrenched systemic racism… Canada is the only country affected by SARS that has flunked corona response. Proportionately it has been almost as bad as the US, although that may change. At least among comrades, please use a more aspirational comparator — Cuba, Costa Rica?
