Hello everyone....I apologize for my lateness. Coming from another meeting
love the energy!
My issue was getting students motivated to go out on Internships.
With kids having more and more screen time they lack social skills and so they lack the communications skills to communicate with others
they felt that real life was on pause and no one is being held accountable to anything.
And Socorro, that was something they already struggled with. The pandemic has only exacerbated their struggles
Absolutely correct with the regression of their face to face communication skills.
It was a difficult time to keep business partners engaged in a traditional way, however, they were happy to join us virtually and answer questions the students had. I was lucky to have many of our advisory members provide a virtual demonstration from their work spaces which offered students a virtual fieldtrip.
Not ideal but it was something!
Creating WBL hours outside of the traditional ways
no lost textbooks all were on line
They had tocreate digital binders instead of physical for Internships
I use Teams to "talk" to my students. They contact me on the way to job interviews and networking events. We were in person 5 days a week here at GC Tech, so the students were able to talk to us in person as well. Our school represented their "happy place" when their lives were so unpredictable.
Fully virtual speaker series - many different industries represented. Also set up new College and Career Program with two local colleges
Our BOCES bought GoPro cameras for the trade teachers to allow for demonstration opportunities. We also invested in NEAT bars which allow the students who opted for fully virtual to be able to see what was going on in the classroom.
I brought a lot of guest speakers from LinkedIn
They did guestspeakng sessions and cooking demo lessons
We held work ready Wednesday where we worked on soft skill lessons through google meet with all the students form 9-11 am and 12:30-2;30 for the afternoon session.
PROJECT--> created an online business based on the topic of " monetizing my passion" scale on the skill we love

Started a virtual Business Advisory Board and invited local businesses in the community as well as parents to join. They were all excited to partner with the school.
Digital media students recorded video of dissection for Health Careers class remote students and future use in the classroom! Great opportunity for student WBL within the building!
WBL (and/or C-DOS) hours outside the confines of the school. They documented what they did. Once they started, and turned a couple of things in, they were more inclined to continue. I had some asking if they could continue over the summer months.
health careers students made videos on hand washing, proper mask wearing, how to take your temperature, and pulse oximetry. These were shared with the rest of the school for educational purposes and WBL>
I also did Food giveaways and had interns prep and pack everything and distribute the food at school. We did this 4 times, including for our Junior Chef Competition and Master Jr. Chef Competition. All those hours were recorded. Next is our Parent/Teacher Cut Throat Competition.
Also, started this year for all incoming 9th Graders to use industry tool PrjMgmt / Agile Trello for project planning and collaboration for implementation across grades going forward.
Video Production & Recording Arts students went out to classrooms to record lessons and then took them back to class to edit and deliver final product to CTE instructors
My Advisory Board is practically composed of folks from different countries, including Africa, Indonesia, Canada, Puerto Rico, etc.
I had area hospitals and nursing homes virtually recruit and conducted virtual interviews using breakout rooms
