even if we are exempt, what if we want to complay so as to get them some funds. Its my understanding that those without children under18 do not currently meet the requirement fo sick leave of paid FMLA

Question about health insurance. At my practice, I pay 50% of employees health insurance. I pay the entire deductible and then withhold 50% of the premium from their paycheck. What happens when I lay off employees? Can I continue to pay their insurance and ask them to repay the business for 1/2 their premium?

Also, since FMLA doesn’t go into effect until April 2, can we ask staff to use their PTO up to April 2?

Is there any advantage (for employees or employers) to keeping employees on payroll with reduced hours over the next few weeks vs. laying off immediately?
Ben

Also: is there a legal distinction between "temporary layoff" (furlough?) and "layoff"?

If employees are temporarily laid off, but have available PTO/Vacation hours can they apply, submit or collect unemployment.
