20:12
that’s a lot of questions

22:28
Hallelujah

22:29
2nd that # of questions... did you think about asking fewer/for less info?

26:26
Probably more, since undocumented folks are not even counted in that number :(

26:45
Out of curiosity — have you considered helping less people in a greater way. $18,000 is not a lot of money. So, you stretched little very thinly.

27:58
Would you be able to share email communication templates on how you followed-up with individuals who applied?

30:21
can you speak up or maybe unplug? I can't hear you

30:28
Can you talk about your switch from giving directly to working through a fiscal sponsor and why, and also, what the problem in your notes is with PayPal. (we have a fund here already started with PayPal).

32:52
Again, if anyone has just joined us, you can find the agenda and detailed notes for today’s conversation here

32:53
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1QTl6DwEdfwUXYjliYkfukfM7jq8htg3LmVVWwBy6mIs/edit#

33:22
You’re doing great!!

35:38
Yes we directly borrowed those “Round 2” guidelines from the Seattle mutual aid fund for artists

36:43
Perhaps when this is all over we can revisit these mutual aid funds and people can join and become members.

38:48
For example, New Orleans has Social Aid and Pleasure Clubs that existed to help specifically its members go through tough times. It was like insurance. This caught a lot of folks off guard. Well, not really — some people knew and sold their stock and others who were supposed to take it seriously called it a hoax and fired the experts.

41:52
Even if it is a non-profit account?

43:07
What do you recommend for those of us who don't have the ability to give checks

44:06
That is exactly why (% of fiscal sponsor) we can't give checks.

46:11
Can you talk about why you switched from giving directly to individuals to going through a fiscal sponsor to give? Was it because of tax issues for the giver or the receiver? Or about writing checks?

50:38
oh gawd. they should be hiring.

51:07
How did you avoid having to ask for W9s for people? Was it because the amount given to them under $600?

51:54
Yes. we wanted to keep under the required reportable income

01:00:24
I’d love to talk about or know about any convos re: long-term recovery and support (as opposed to immediate response)

01:00:36
Treva, did y’all give tax donation letters to anyone who donated?

01:00:59
No tax donation letters were given because the donations were just given to Venmo account or to a GoFundMe

01:01:42
Now that we are connected to YouthSeen, I imagine that a large donor who needs a tax deduction could potentially write a large check to YouthSeen specifically for this mutual aid account. But Tara would know for sure.

01:03:23
For admin costs, it will depend on your bank as to how much they will be taking. Our current costs is the cost of checks and what PayPal and other online platforms will be taking

01:05:53
Yes, a large donor can make a donation which we will give a tax donation letter that states where those funds have gone

01:11:42
Hi Jay-Marie, yes we have many applications from MO and we would love to send them your way thank you!

01:12:29
YES: I do recommend a donor + recipient matching strategy. It circumvents admin and tax BS

01:12:42
lmao... minor question.

01:13:21
The question is what’s your main political insight from being involved in this process? And where do “we” who are invested in liberation go from here?

01:13:23
Have any other existing non-profits donated to the fund?

01:13:39
No other existing nonprofits have donated to the fund.

01:13:55
The donations on GoFundMe have ranged from $5-2,800 each.

01:14:39
Yep. Cause moratorium is 1 + 1 + 1 = you still owe at the end of the day

01:16:01
Thank you for sharing all of this! Will you email us the webinar video so we can share it? Or will you post it to your gofundme page?

01:18:34
Thanks for sharing! Awesome work!!
