Howdy, Janet!
Simon Helton - ISTE
32:59
Please feel free to ask questions at any time and I’ll make sure Brian sees them during the Q&A
Chris Johnson
33:53
Simon was a little slow. Do you have the URL that was on the title slide
Naomi Harm
34:04
Greetings Everyone - @NaomiHarm joining you from Cave Creek, AZ. I am an ISTE online facilitator and currently facilitating the ISTE AI course with over 100 amazing waistcoats educators in my group. Simon Helton - ISTE
34:19
I’ll make sure Brian shares that out, Chris

Cindy to the rescue!

The type of tech has really helped my wounded warrior son with a severe TBI to help him with recall and processing information, where his long term and short term memory recall is difficult for him. It is his virtual assistant to take meds, locate where he has placed something as he frequently forgets.
Simon Helton - ISTE
37:39
That’s a great example, Naomi
Simon Helton - ISTE
38:02
Is that audio clear for everyone else, too?
Lilly
38:10
yes
Chris Johnson
38:10
yes

Simon Helton - ISTE
38:20
Thanks, all!
Chris Johnson
38:20
it’s 52 here :)
Naomi Harm
38:21
Audio is very clear
Maureen Skelly
38:31
Yes
Cindy Lewis
40:35
Spelling and translating have been helpful for my English Language Learners.
Herb Coleman
41:22
Is the difference between “play” and “read” or between audible and Kindle?
OGECHUKWU Ozo-Onyali
41:25
Can headphones be used with Alexa? Just wondering about using it for reading in class
Simon Helton - ISTE
41:40
Great question on headphones. I’ll make sure Brian sees that
Naomi Harm
45:00
“Mindful Moment” = Love It!
Cindy Lewis
45:50
I love this "Ask My Class"! I'm going to try mindfullness and a dance break. Thank you!
Naomi Harm
46:11
Where do find the archive of this webinar after today?
Matthew Ketchum
46:23
Very impressed with the Ask My Class skill, thanks so much for sharing!
Simon Helton - ISTE
46:56

Naomi Harm
47:02
TY!
Janet Coe
48:18
I know you can set up Echo devices to speakers so I’m pretty sure you can hook up headphones as well.
Simon Helton - ISTE
50:09
Good point
Matt Wood
50:51
I am a little late, but for districts using Alexa, do you have parents sign a release form or include a notice in your policy?
Simon Helton - ISTE
51:09
Great question, Matt
Janet Coe
51:20
@Matt I have the same question regarding underage students, especially, and FERPA
Janet Coe
51:53
Interesting article about that topic: https://ferpasherpa.org/bearden4/
Matthew Ketchum
51:55
@Matt @Janet important to look at student data privacy and under 13 ages - good questions to ask
Catherine Hines
52:23
I was also very cautious with Alexa and COPPA FERPA complince
Matt Wood
52:44
Amazon reps released statements indicating it was not designed for school use. We have older kids programming. They have permission slup.
Catherine Hines
52:45
I hope the privacy topic is addressed
Matt Wood
52:48
slip
Beatriz Arnillas
53:45
If Amazon has not created a set of apps “for education”, with a “student privacy pledge” then we should not be using Alexa, unless we get parental agreement. The dialogue, usage would be mined for data… anyone has more thoughts on this?
Tori Mazur
54:00
I'm with you Beatriz!
Diane Harazin
54:30
I agree with you too, Beatriz!
Janet Coe
55:27
Beatriz, my concerns as well
James Moyle
57:05
Beatriz reasons is why we don't allow them in our schools, yet.
Catherine Hines
57:56
If you get parent permission, would it then be COPPA compliant?
Tori Mazur
57:59
I do love the possibilities for accessibility, but we have to 1) protect student data and 2) follow COPPA/FERPA law
Herb Coleman
58:15
I have the Wyze cameras and they work great with my Echo and give a better image than my Ring Door bell (also works with Echo).
Beatriz Arnillas
59:31
COPPA compliance: is debatable. I think FERPA takes precedence
Herb Coleman
59:31
What about students randomly shouting out commands?
Beatriz Arnillas
59:53
How about using Alexa purposefully, to teach “privacy, security and safety”
Beatriz Arnillas
01:00:05
Also, to teach about “filter bubbles?”
Beatriz Arnillas
01:00:23
so, being careful that alexa cannot gather student data?
Bonnie Nobiling
01:00:53
The privacy issue is the storage of student voices where the voice is the data that is not private
Michelle Wendt
01:01:06
do we have bulk delete yet?
Cindy Lewis
01:01:09
It's been awhile since I used Alexa. How do you keep students from purchasing things?
Michelle Wendt
01:02:27
how much is ask myclass after 14 day trial is over?
Matthew Ketchum
01:02:37
How does the Echo get allowed on a School Network? Not Network savvy but seems like Echo needs a certain way to connect to WiFi at a School Site?
Aparna Ramanathan
01:02:41
You can also completely turn off voice purchasing. There’s also bulk delete in the Alexa app
Cindy Lewis
01:02:51
Thank you!
Janet Coe
01:03:45
to connect to school wifi you’ll need your tech department to set you up. we don’t share the password. or have to use public wifi if available

01:04:12
It also works with the Fire TV
Chris Johnson
01:04:16
No questions - great information
Janet Coe
01:04:43
might have to have it whitelisted on filter
Matthew Ketchum
01:04:58
Thanks @Janet
Jennifer Cunningham-Lozano
01:05:03

Terri Reeves
01:05:05
