Sentara is. not using nitrous right now either
Please enter any questions you may have and we can pause .
isn’t this also a very small sample size
Yes, Janani, that is a VERY small sample size
They are getting research as they can so samples are very small.
If my husband still has to work outside of the home should he try to self quarantine for 2 weeks before my due date?
Chelsea, great question! We will be sure to have Lynn address
I have a 16 week appointment coming up. My doctor said it was my choice to come in or do telehealth. Do you have any advice?
great question Theresa, thank you
Not all Sentaras offer nitrous. So at MArtha Jefferson we are not using nitrous.
Is anyone on from VCU? If so, can you please share what the current practice is at your hospital right now?
Lynn Olmsted CNM
I will answer these questions in a few min :)
I’m seeing the midwives at UVA. Would love to hear about their practices as well
How is it when we get discharge? Is my husband allowed to leave room to her car seat for our baby or once we arrive to the hospital we have to take everything in since no one will be able to leave and come back in?
and if someone can also address pediatric visits a few days after birth
Are any hospitals that you know of NOT allowing one support person? I am delivering at Riverside Regional Medical and am due in less than a week and that is my biggest concern.
Have there been any changes on when women have been delivering during the coronavirus? For example, has the news resulted in more moms delivering early or late than what typically happens? (not based on personal preference)
Do you have any recommendations for who should watch the older child while mom and dad is in the hospital?
Are hospitals encouraging or requiring patients to leave more quickly than they normally would postpartum (ex women have to leave after 24 hours instead of staying for up to 48 after a vaginal birth)?
Several pediatrician offices are scheduling the well newborn visits in the morning and the sick kids in the afternoon. One office in Charlottesville is a large practice and has separate entrances for sick and well.
Is there any sense that Virginia hospitals could move to no support persons/partners, or is the reversal in NY a sign that we have moved past that measure.
I am pregnant with my first child and my hospital cancelled a few of the birthing and newborn care classes we signed up for. Do you have recommendations for alternative/virtual resources for these topics?
If you are in the Newport News area, Kristen Miller is the local coordinator for PSVa. You can reach out to her for questions about Riverside, Sentara Careplex or Bon Secours Mary Immaculate at email@example.com
Recommend a home birth if we feel we are a good candidate? Birth center? (due first week July)
If you are in the Woodbridge area, email Lydia Anderson at firstname.lastname@example.org
Our Willliamsburg Coordinator is Danielle Cauley and you can reach her at Williamsburg@postpartumva.org
Ashley, MyBirth in Richmond has virtual childbirth, lactation and baby classes. mybirthrva.com I hope I'm allowed to say that :-)
Diane Sampson is also on here and she is our Charlottesville Coordinator. You can reach her at email@example.com
Does the stay at home order mean that we can't exercise outside?
Yes, please share any resources you know of, Sara! Thanks!!
MyBirth in Richmond has virtual classes available
Catherine Rossi’s iPhone (2)
what about having a grandmother come to take care of my other kiddos!
a lot of YMCAs are offering child care options at this time. FYI
does anyone know if there has been any positive cases in the Inova Fairfax facility?
In labor and delivery.
PSVa will provide a list of suggestions for virtual classes on our website in the next few days
Besides food and car seat, is there anything we should plan to bring for delivery (in addition to the normal stuff on lists to bring to hospital)
Can you share some best practices for the first couple weeks once you go home, aside from practicing social distancing. Any other special precautions we should take to protect the baby given COVID-19?
A private lactation practice in Charlottesville Breastfeeding Blues & Bliss (Charlottesville) offers prenatal online preparation for breastfeeding classes. See www.bbblc.net for more info.
"Birthing in the Time of COVID-19" is the course from Evidence Based Birth
Is nitrous oxide still a pain relief option at UVA? Friends at CA hospitals were told nitrous was not available because of COVID-19.
planning to deliver at Riverside in Newport News. I am due May 7th. If I am diagnosed with COVID19, but my husband is not, will my husband still be allowed in labor and delivery?
if someone like a grandparent needs to fly to see your baby how long should they wait after baby is born?
Read Northam’s order. Outdoor exercise is permitted provided you maintain six foot social distancing and you are not in a group of ten or
Lynn Olmsted CNM
Currently UVA is not offering Nitrous :(
if the mother is diagnosed with COVID19, do we know how long babies have been separated from the mother after birth?
Is there a how-to manual for taking care of the baby after the hospital? That is where I feel I have the most gaps in knowledge.
We are supposed to be moving from VA to Alabama (military move), 6 days after expected due date (25 July)... how would you say to handle allowing movers in the house & us having to travel in the car several hours from here to there? I am worried about lots of potential exposure.
If my partner is going into labor, we'll definitely call ahead to the OBGYN on call with labor and delivery but can we bypass the ER?
Erin, generally speaking your OBGYN is going to tell you to NOT go to the ER, but to go to L&D directly.
A great general Pediatric Source for baby care and safety; www.healthychildren.org

My husband is in the military and still going in to work, but I am working from home. Do you recommend practicing in social distancing while at home?
And husband should be able to stay the entire postpartum stay, as long as he doesn’t leave to get anything?
are doctors offices allowing people to get flu and tdap shots right now? Would like my husband to get that if possible.
that makes sense, thank you :)
If you go past your 40 weeks is it still recommended to wait to give birth until 42 weeks if mom and baby are healthy or is it recommended to be induced?
are firestations still doing safety checks on carseats right now?
Hillary! Thanks! Meant to ask that question
Would you recommend avoiding grocery stores if possible?
I have a 37 week appointment, will appointments be narrowed down to like every-other/tele appts?
If they are not doing car seat checks, www.safekids.org has really good resources.
it’s so nice to hear from all of you, thank you!
Once baby is born can we choose not to let baby leave room to get their exams done, like would they be able to perform in room?
is a bassinet needed or will a crib be adequate? what are the advantages of having a bassient for the baby to sleep in?
do they limit the people coming in and out of the room during labor if possible?
(nurses, residents, etc) (at uva)
Will the hospital provide masks for us? And I am not totally clear on the recommendations for wearing them while breastfeeding.
Thank you!!! Great info!

Follow-up on the 16 week appointment question…My quad screen was scheduled for that appt as well (but I believe I can reschedule that for a later date as well). Does your advice still stand to do telehealth for now?
