Yesterday New Mexico Voices for Children released this policy brief along with 4 statewide grassroots immigrant rights/direct service organizations. The report analyzes Federal COVID relief policy, the vulnerability and exclusion of immigrant families from relief, and recommendations for state and federal action across a variety of policy areas. https://www.nmvoices.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Immigrant-covid-report-web.pdf

Regarding status of detained immigrants: ICE has been releasing some immigrants who are considered “high risk” of infection, but their response has fallen short of what advocates are calling for, and release of detainees often requires a lot of effort by local advocates to get them out. And family detention centers and ORR facilities are still holding children and families who have relatives here in the US able to take them in.
