Thank you! It’s been a while since I joined. Ashamed to admit that I recognise myself in today’s lesson; I’ve allowed myself to become totally obsessed with someone who keeps upsetting my peace and quiet. Joys of lockdown and working from home! :). Feeling reset... Thanks again!

In the third stage I am often unsettled by how easily I make assumptions and judgements about people I don’t really know so they then cease to be neutral. is it really possible to think of anybody in a neutral way

Q The Metta Bhavana just didn't work for me this morning and I switched back to Mindfulness of Breathing. which felt better. Which hindrance is that ?

Thank you! I really liked what you said about welcoming ourselves and all our experience at the start of the meditation (I welcomed a fly who was trapped in my room, the person using a power drill outside, a very loud radio, people talking..) - for some reason, today it was light and funny rather than irritating, perhaps because of what you said about welcoming ourselves.

Q Dayabhadra, Thank you!!! Do you think it possible in the Metta Bhavana to reach similar levels of concentration/single pointedness as in the mindfulness of breathing? The mind seems to need to do more in the Metta Bhavana (thinking of people, wishing them well etc…)
Divya

Q when I tried to think of ill will I have had towards others it seems to always be in response to something deeply hurtful they have done to me/ones I love so it becomes hard to detach from this feeling even though I know I have no right to wish ill will on anyone. Any tips?

yes I relate to the assumptions thing. But I find it better if I think in more empathic terms. What they have in common with us, needs, wishes, disappointments , pain, hopes, consciousness. etc

You can absolutely use meta as a focus object. Traditionally, it is often used as a way to get into jhana. (In answer to the last question)
