42:59
Someone said that this period of crisis and learning is like building the plane while we are flying it!

43:14
Hello all

43:15
Nodding Gabriel that is so true!

43:17
So true, Gabriel!

43:20
Hi Regina welcome :)

44:38
A good teacher plants seeds for trees he knows he will not get to sit under the shade of.

44:48
Great question, Nancy. We’ll add this to the panelist Q&A for them to share their perspectives.

45:34
Any school system that does not find the $ to give every students a chrome book should be ashamed of themselves.

47:23
“we are trying to assess the weather of our families now to inform planning for fall How can we assess but not traumatize further” I love that @Nancy - what a tricky balance

47:35
Just as SNAP and WIC and free and reduced breakfast and lunches are provided, should free or reducted Internet access be given??

47:54
“How have you pivoted while distance teaching and learning to assure connections with your high needs students?” Great question @sandra

47:58
Thank you for your question, Sandra. We’ll had to the Q&A

49:17
“At our district we use the language underserved students to remove responsibility stigma from student and family caregivers and put it back on the system” @Michelle, thank you for sharing this!

49:38
LOVE the free/reduced internet idea - my area is offering it - temporarily - but many of our students do not live within range of the WIFI signal

50:16
A good teacher shows students where to look, but does not tell them what to see.

50:49
Spectrum offers “free” internet where I am, but people can’t have an outstanding bill. So it’s missing a lot of people.

51:18
We guarantee loans for kids going to college to help our economy and work force. Why not guarantee free or reduced Internet to help our economy?

51:18
@Gabriel, that is great insight!

52:53
Carole - also true with Optimum in our area

55:11
@Lisa - yes, we’ll be sharing the powerpoint with all attendees!

55:43
Hattie's 8 strategies are a focus in my district while incorporating equity and excellence!

55:51
@Hannah thank you for sharing “Internet Essentials from Comcast is a program that offers low cost internet if they service your area. We have some community members who have sponsored families who need internet during this time as well."

56:51
thank you for this webinar.

59:05
“I am learning to avoid using the word "empower". It implies the group does not have power.” - thank you for sharing, Minerva

59:14
What are some of the key SEL Data Points you have used, specifically for High School?

59:19
“What training are you providing your staff to educate on equity, cultural awareness, giftedness, bias, etc.?” great question - we’ll add to the Q&A

59:57
“I appreciate incorporating values and not waiting for buy-in, but hiring educators that understand SEL and equity” Thank you, Sandra

01:00:57
“What are some of the key SEL Data Points you have used, specifically for High School?” great question, we’ll add!

01:01:52
@minvera - “I am learning to avoid using the word "empower". It implies the group does not have power.” I appreciate you naming that - there is a lot of unpack there

01:02:21
@Kathy King, here is the distance learning survey that Diane and Norwalk used: https://www.panoramaed.com/distance-learning-surveys

01:02:58
How did you move through raising awareness of diversity and bias, and to what action to take to change it when it comes to training the staff?

01:03:44
“How did you move through raising awareness of diversity and bias, and to what action to take to change it when it comes to training the staff?” @Carole, thank you for your question - we’ll add to the Q&A

01:04:27
“What were families able to share about space for students to learn, study and perhaps have telehealth counseling appointments, please?” Thank you for your question - we’ll add to the Q&A

01:05:47
Thank you for sharing, Sandra and Diane!

01:06:47
Welcome folks! I invite you to use “all panelists and attendees” chatting out :)

01:07:16
You, 11:26 AM I appreciate Sandra’s point around talent management and focus on equity. What structure and system is implemented to ensure that leaders from underserved backgrounds can be successful in leading their school/the district?

01:07:32
“You, 11:26 AM I appreciate Sandra’s point around talent management and focus on equity. What structure and system is implemented to ensure that leaders from underserved backgrounds can be successful in leading their school/the district?” Great question, @Anna - we’ll add to the Q&A

01:07:42
Feel free to tweet at Tracy and Panorama!

01:08:19

01:08:19
@karen we will get a copy of the presentations today :)

01:08:35
Thank you for including trauma-informed/healing principles

01:09:20
nodding*

01:09:32
@thank you for joining, Sabrina!

01:10:20
+100000

01:10:38
i want a stress ball!

01:10:54
Same Minerva!

01:11:13
4th grade is the best! Hot take ;)

01:13:12
@Michelle - great point - Thank you for that visual to remind us that homes are not designed like schools. I think some educators are missing the mark on that.

01:13:47
It is hard for us to pause and empathize with students and families

01:13:48
It ha been difficult for teachers to take on the task of connecting with each and all students while physically distanced—can you share more scaffolding for our teachers?

01:14:02
Sarcasm really has no place here; didn't in live classrooms nor in virtual

01:14:08
Yay! PBIS!

01:14:27
“Sarcasm really has no place here; didn't in live classrooms nor in virtual” - great point, @Rhonda!

01:14:45
right on!

01:14:56
@sandra - we are actually going to lead a webinar that addresses those strategies for connection and building confidence tomorrow at 330pm EDT https://pan-ed.com/from-all-to-every

01:15:01
We would love to see you there!

01:15:20
See you there!

01:15:44
Yes Sandra <3 !

01:15:57
@Randy - that’s a great share! Thank you.

01:16:09
how does the synchronous v asynchronous format affect this?

01:16:18
Randy I completely agree - we’ve lead cohorts and trainings to support paras in seeing their power and how they are such a bridge between school and families

01:16:46
Applause*

01:17:14
Sharing a survey option here - https://pan-ed.com/distance-learning-surveys

01:17:40

01:19:00
Love MTSS/PBIS

01:19:51
inspire, engage, empower is the theme in my school district this year.

01:21:14
Love the rethinking of teacher record model..also wondering how we can expand our thinking about "the teacher"

01:21:59
Nodding @Michelle - I would love to hear you chat thoughts on this - what do you think (others too)

01:22:22
Great point—how do we help teachers engage with their students?

01:22:36
It’s so important to be culturally relevant and build independent learners.

01:22:41
Awesome! Many thanks to all panelists—really helpful?

01:22:45
Great overview!

01:22:49
Thanks Tracey! Very practical advice

01:22:51
grades are so subjective. pass/fail only with rubrics?

01:23:09
Tracy, I am buying your book this week! Thank you!!

01:23:15
Meant to put exclamation not question mark!

01:23:41
This is so invaluable! Thanks to the panel!

01:24:16

01:24:25
I have always said that one of the things teachers do not teach is how to learn. I recommended at my high school before I went into administration, that to increase student achievement, teach them study skills and bring in reading teachers. Those were put in place and the students did show academic gains.

01:24:36

01:25:07
The object of education is to train people to be able to train themselves throughout their lives.

01:25:47
Nodding* active listening to a variety of stakeholder groups is key

01:26:41
Imagine if... our new normal of the classroom teachers role during the day may be designing in outside educators from organizations, institutions community etc. Imagine a science unit being delivered virtually by Lego or NASA....If our return in both virtual and in person...what great opportunities...

01:26:44
I appreciate your kind and clear response

01:27:31
Right?

01:27:32

01:31:21
We’ve been trauma-informed and focused on MTSS and equity as well for 5 years…and still see that the academics slip into a siloed approach, even with constant data collection and review…ever vigilant for practice…agreed Dr. Benson

01:31:33
Thank you so much - I need to go to another meeting - this has been really helpful

01:32:15
Please don't forget your school psychologists in these talks. We have been working consistently in this area and have some great leaders to partner with administrators and central office staff.

01:32:31
Nodding transparency is key

01:33:24
"we had a vision we wanted all students to achieve. the data said that wasn't happening. from there, the conversation was born" - amazing

01:33:33
Thank you all—this has been excellent information and presented well and authentically! Take great care!

01:33:53
Thanks so much!

01:34:02
