When Yossi Klein-Halevi was interviewing one of the paratroopers for his book "Like Dreamers," the paratrooper called Yossi a "yeled chutz."

This is a link to one of the first satirical TV programs in Israel (early 70's) called Lool - Chicken Coop. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQPuOp2Lxb8 It stars Aril Einstein who was best known as a singer and Uri Zohar who ultimately became a haredi rabbi. I think it shows, in a humorous way, the tension between the waves of aliya and mocks the "veterans".

Everyone knows the Palmach Museum but there is another section dedicated to "Machal", the volunteers who fought in the War of Independence. It's quite disturbing to see this exhibition , done more or less in the same style albeit in one room only.. When you (can) visit there, ask to see it as it fits in nicely with the Alterman poem.

Actually, I did know Biblical stories before making Aliya and surely Joseph's striped coat (I even say the play!)….so my point was that I was not expected to know the connections :) a stereotypical response towards new olim...

Interesting juxtaposition for me - the colourful striped coats of the Mizrachi Jews and the striped black-and-white pajamas of the camp survivors
