how should employers complete the response to the unemployment requests in the COVID-19 scenarios?• Someone still working a few hours…should we indicate separation reason is still working but partial separation is due to 1) national tragedy, or 2) natural disaster, or 3) lack of work, or 4) temporary lack of work?• For those with no hours and not working at all but we are not terminating and they are not resigning…should we indicate separation reason is lack of work due to: 1) national tragedy, or 2) natural disaster; or 3) lack of work, or 4) temporary lack of work?
Matt Schlobohm
36:56
Re: Amanda Stover's question, you should definitely apply in this scenario. The DOL will make a decision based on your circumstances, but definitely apply.

We had an employee start only a few weeks ago - are we able to give him the option to seek unemployment even though he hasn’t even been employed by us for 30 days at this point?
Matt Schlobohm

I work at Bath Iron Works, and they have allowed us 2 weeks unpaid absence. My partner is a critical care nurse that works with medically fragile children. There is concern from her employer, and my self as well, that the precautions taken at BIW are not adequate. Will I be eligible for unemployment for the 2 weeks?

The new Covid-19 provision applies if the employer "ceases" operation due to Covid-19? What if an employer drastically reduces operation? For example a resturaunt going from dine-in to take-out only?

Question submitted via Facebook page: I work part-time as a cook at a local college which has been shut down because of COVID-19. I typically don't qualify for unemployment when we close during school breaks because I don't make enough during both periods. I tried filing a claim just this morning and was denied. Is there a specific place I can go to get a resolution to this? The phone lines are busy busy and the website is no help at all. Any guidance would be appreciated.

What is self isolation orders/encouragements go way beyond two weeks. Are we prepared for a more longer term situation in relation to unemployment benefits for employees, and protecting the businesses too?
Matt Schlobohm
53:36
Re: "owner's" last question, yes, if self isolation goes beyond 2 weeks workers are eligible for 26 weeks under state law and the recent federal law just extended that up to 52 weeks
