Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for help with Teams—Nikki Knight in OIT and she can assign someone rot help
I have set up Teams for instant communication with students and to meet with other faculty members. It works wonderful, perfect with iPhone.
Good point, teams works great with android too
Liliana we cannot hear you.
I am speaking, but it is not working
Liliana- ask your question in chat
I can hear myself now
Can I save this chat for later? That way I do not have to keep writing down all the relevant parts.
my understanding is that with Teams, you can’t see all students at once. is that correct?
you can share a link to your meeting in a canvas anouncement
Ok, I figured it out
Michael- you can but may need to scroll down depending on the number of students. They appear in the same manner as Zoom
If you do Teams in the Chrome browser, you can only see who is talking, if you use the standalone app, you can see everyone
Maria - maybe someone can show me that at some point. I have been told there is a max of 4 people at once in Teams where as in Zoom, you can see several. For a class of 15, this makes a class conversation viable
Would it be possible to just have the walk through of the program and then have questions at the end?
Michael- we are using Teams for all of the teams working on this crisis. Some range from 20+ and others are smaller. I’ve used it consistently and it is a pretty robust tool. Here’s more info https://uta.service-now.com/navpage.do

All- Nikki Knight (email@example.com) will assign someone to help walk you through Teams for your course.
Thank you, Maria.

will this chat be sent as a transcript to our uta e-mail?
For MS Teams, do students have to download it for free? Buy it? How easy it is for them to acquire it?
Yes it will be sent to us later.
All students already have Teams as part of Office 365. They do need to download the app. See the step by step guide here- scroll down to “Instructors Record lecture and Share with Students” https://www.uta.edu/administration/provost/policies-and-resources/canvas/teach-remotely
For some reason I can't see the Unpublished/Published button on the upper right corner of my Home page.
it dissapears if you have graded assingments already submitted
Recorded training videos in Canvas are also available if you ant a review of today’s sessions- https://www.uta.edu/administration/provost/policies-and-resources/canvas/faculty-training-resources/training-videos
Unfortunately, the sound keeps cutting out.
In my Canvas>Account>Notifications, I don't see a column for Push Notifications? How can I initiate hat? I do see a column for Email Address.
I understood that we could not change syllabus?
You can change it, especially if there will be changes.
I could hear Maria and this is what she said. Students need to understand the new expectations.
I have changed my grading to down weight the exams and weight homework and the project heavier. I will grade them both ways and give the higher grade.
Also, I am sure it goes without saying, but to Maria's and Liliana's point it is probably a good idea to communicate with the students via email and announcement to make them awae about any revisions in the syllabus. I am not sure carefully the students comb over the syllabus. A bunch of potential grade disputes at the end of the semester could be a headache.
I would also suggest you communicate with your students early and often-many are anxious about expectations and keeping them updated (that you are updating syllabus, they need to download the Canvas app and/or Teams app, complete short survey on tech needs?) will help them feel better prepared. Thank you all for your good work during these very uncertain times.
Will Qualtrics be available until the end of the semester?
I was already using McGraw Hill Connect. It makes this transition much easier. McGH is now offering Connect free of charge to the end of the semester.
Yes- Qualtrics will continue to be available through the end of the semester, per OIT
You mentioned earlier that it would be bestt o make short < 7 minute videos. If I make say five videos for a class, will students have to click on each one separately one after the other? Or, is there a way I connect the videos in such a way that the transition happens automatically?
how can I confirm whether my TA has access to my course on Canvas?
You need to add your TA under people
your TA needs to accept your invitation. You need to find your TA by email, so you need to type in the precise email. And, you need to assign your TA as a TA
Go to people. Your TA is likely not there if you never added him/her
For Gas, also be sure that your department administrative assistant has added them as Was on the MyMav Instructor assignment page. Once added, they should have access to Canvas to enter grades, view assignments, etc.
Should have read for T.A.’s…not sure why it auto-corrected to Gas?
Joseph, (or Maria) when you are done, I’d like to know about Canvas’ ability to do questionnaires/polls for students
Will OIT make necessary software like solidworks available to students for us on their PCs.
Scott Hilton- on polls or surveys on canvas https://ki.instructure.com/courses/192/pages/questionnaires-and-registration-forms

Aldo feel free to tap into the Canvas Community- it includes instructors from around the globe using Canvas and sharing strategies, tools, etc. https://community.canvaslms.com/welcome. Lots of chatter now on Contingency Planning
If students need to borrow technology or other resources- the library shared the following https://libraries.uta.edu/services/technology/borrow Library hours https://libraries.uta.edu/locations/cen
Lockdown Browser tutorials https://web.respondus.com/he/lockdownbrowser/resources/
Think it should be anytime since you have a time limit anyway….
Online means access from anywhere anytime…
That is correct, but you would want to give them some sort of time frame so they don't drag it out.
Correct.. 24 or 48 hours?
Next session starting now for COLA COLLEGE OF LIBERAL ARTS: Tuesday, March 17, 2020, 12:00 PM-1:00 PMJoin Microsoft Teams Meeting (Press CTRL and Click to Open)+1 817-502-2418 United States, Fort Worth (Toll)Conference ID: 126 741 846#
Thank you very much for this class, Joseph and Maria. It has been invaluable. I have to go.
Can we go straight to next steps… 1) Give students the needs survey; 2) prep our online course in canvas via Studio Videos; 3) proceed with specific questions directly…
In case you’d like to develop your own survey for your students, here’s a sample —DO NOT USE THIS LINK, use only the questions and create your own survey. https://uta.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0DFhdUsEtiTa0QJ
Thanks so much for the info!
