You understand me!! I love how you talked about the plethora of things out there. I need a practical way to decide what to use.
Kim Olson
01:52:17
I agree with you Stephenie
Kim Olson
01:56:08
OH YEAH!!!!! Email Nightmare
Kim Olson
02:03:01
I LOVE Canva!!!!
Kim Olson
02:03:25
There is a way for nonprofits to apply for a nonprofit Canva account for FREE
Gloria Pluimer
02:05:13
Is there a service whereas you could send the newsletter both as an email and text?
Kim Olson
02:05:33
YES.. Gloria
Gloria Pluimer
02:05:37
Or would it be a text with a link to the newsletter?
Becki Lemke
02:06:12
As a reference point, if you liked the way the new EverLearning looked, Shane did the layout in Canva.
srittberger
02:06:37
Thank you Shane, it looked wonderful!
Gloria Pluimer
02:07:15
Good to know. It was excellent. Did you send as a text to anyone? Could you?
Nakita
02:08:21
Gloria, I make class flyers on Canva and then send them via text as a picture. I'm not sure if that answers your question?
Becki Lemke
02:08:32
Gloria, we would need to build a database of mobile numbers in order to be able to text the newsletter out to everyone. Not sure how feasible that is for SDALL, but it might be possible to connect with students.

02:12:41
Is there a way to annotate/whiteboard with Google Meet?
Royce Miller
02:14:16
Jamboard doesn't require a physical board?
srittberger
02:17:00
Rhonda Lipp is great with jamboard
Kim Olson
02:17:11
As a parent, I wish all my kids teachers used the same LMS
srittberger
02:20:22
We talked about that in our zoom group for parents who were struggling. They needed a class to know how to understand the system the teacher was using for each kiddo.
Kim Olson
02:22:07
Stephanie...I agree. I think I am fairly tech savie and we had one teacher that told us an app to download and use...We never figured out how to use it and never talked to another parent who was able to use.
Kim Olson
02:22:51
Savvy
Lynn Phillips
02:23:25
Some of them will let others change the documents. Best to make a share folder and keep your files safe
Becki Lemke
02:24:16
Lynn, I always make a duplicate folder to share and keep a "parent" folder that houses my originals so that I can keep them safe!
Kim Olson
02:24:48
Yes Lynn...You need to watch your share settings. I agree with Becki about having a "parent" file
Lynn Phillips
02:24:51
Yes Becki, that is why I mentioned it, just so everyone realizes that it can be done
Simms.Erik
02:25:48
My union has its own LMS and you can copy the slide shows but you can't edit them on the LMS
srittberger
02:26:23
I like that idea. It is not so overwhelming.
Lynn Phillips
02:26:52
Hi Erik, I did a check to see which programs allow changes to the files when I was learning before I put the files up.
srittberger
02:27:21
So I could archive a list instead of sending each link
Becki Lemke
02:27:29
That's really smart, Lynn. Saves you heartache later!
Simms.Erik
02:28:40
Yeah I can download the power point and edit it to share with my students in the Google Classroom but the students can also go to the LMS on their own and take classes and can't edit them.
Lynn Phillips
02:29:37
That is good, you can make the changes you need, but can still keep the presentation from being changed.
Simms.Erik
02:30:24
I just wished more students would participate
Kim Olson
02:33:08
Erik...If you figure out the answer to that one, you could get rich on the speaker circuit.
dennis.swofford
02:33:37
Indeed!!
Simms.Erik
02:34:55
I agree Kim, but as a trade instructor at Job Corps these students already didn't like traditional studies. They are more hands on.
Kim Olson
02:37:34
That would definitely be like my oldest two boys. We were lucky that my oldest sons instructor gave several options for completing their end of year assignments. My son picked to build a project where he recorded through out the large project. He also taught is youngest brother to use some tools and then he marketed and sold the project to earn funds for the Ag program. Much more successful than writing reports and famous chemists.
Simms.Erik
02:38:33
Well that is excellent!
Becki Lemke
02:39:55
I'm taking a class right now that uses Flipgrid. It's nice to be able to hear the reflections of the other participants as I work through the modules.
srittberger
02:41:02
Reflection is essential. I am glad you are addressing it.
Becki Lemke
02:43:13
It takes practice to make a good, useful Google Form, but it is a great tool. My best advice is to have someone else use your form before you publish it to help you troubleshoot any issues.
Kim Olson
02:43:21
I hear that school age kids have now figured out how to get the answers from the Google Forms....so creative/devious
srittberger
02:44:19
I like the grading piece. I used it for the FEMA classes and it saved a lot of time, then you knew they were ready for the exam.
Royce Miller
02:46:07
Is it free for outside of K-12? Socrative?
Andrew
02:46:54
Socratic sounds very useful!
Kim Olson
02:47:10
Royce ….https://www.socrative.com/plans/
Royce Miller
02:47:48
Thanks
Kim Olson
02:50:34
We use Kahoot!
Nakita
02:50:57
Kahoot is fun - not too childish in our experience
anne.eklund
03:01:54
Thank you for ALL the information!
Becki Lemke
03:01:55
Kristin, I wish we had another hour to keep talking! Thanks so much. This was great, and very helpful!
Michelle Lees
03:02:28
Thank you. A lot to process! But good information.

03:02:39
Delicious session...thanks Kristin!!
Lynn Phillips
03:02:42
Thanks Kristin, another very informative presentation
