I have read that not sharing your screen minimizes the threat of unwanted people hijacking your meeting.

What are some of the best practices for virtual breakout rooms? From my understanding, once you activate a breakout room, you will get a separate pop-up window. I find that this confuses a lot of people; they have trouble loading the new screen and coming back to the main room. I find that using virtual breakout rooms increases the risk of losing some of your attendees.

Zoom meets all Canadian, US and European privacy standards and legislation for medical and healthcare uses, so not sure why there is a concern for lawyers and mediators
Jeff Morris
01:20:49
Zoom does not store session data on their server and it is not saved on participants devices, so again, not an issue, if you disable recording and saving to their cloud
Bernard Morrow
01:21:46
Correct, Jeff. Just disable recording and clearly advise the participants that you have done so.
Janet McKay
01:24:37
Actually, Zoom doe not meet healthcare legislation, unless specifically requested. It can be set it for PHIPA but that disables the recording and cloud storage. ADRIC's group plan does not meet PHIPA because most members want the webinar and recording feature.

my audio bluetooth’s into my hearing aids so no headset required. I am on an iPad now.

Encryption is available to all users, you just have to enable it in settings: https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/201362723-Encryption-for-Meetings

Do we need to have a "paid" Zoom account?
Fred Berenbaum
01:27:10
can you explain how to assign participants to breakout rooms. I haven’t been able to figure this out.
Rose Campbell
01:28:33
zoom is possible on phones and Ipads.
Joy Noonan
01:30:20
No, if the dog barked it would have been an issue - more of a distraction - but there’s a mute button.
Brian Grant
01:31:09
To assign to breakout rooms, click on "breakout rooms" and the list will pop up. Beside each room name or number is the word "assign". Hover over "assign" and the names of participants will show up. You can only do this after the people have joined the meeting. I don't think you can do this in advance of the meeting.
Colm Brannigan
01:31:17
You can assign breakout rooms before the meeting but I would not generally do so.
William Lukewich
01:32:17
Actually you can preassign when you are setting up the meeting criteria
Fred Berenbaum
01:33:04
thank you. how do you bring them back to the main room?
Gary Furlong
01:33:21
You may want to do it on the fly, as you may want to meet just with counsel, etc.
Joy Noonan
01:36:10
Yes the host ought to have a paid Zoom acct. Participants then can join for free.

Technical question: How does the notification function work (ie. to allow a party to notify you with a virtual “knock on the door” when they are ready for you)?
★ Mongeon (ezCPD.ca or ODRS.ca)
01:37:25
participants do not need a zoom account. They will connect through the app - which they will be directed to download when you send the link. This is not a zoom account it is just a connection.
Gary Furlong
01:37:55
Yes, must be addressed at the beginning, for sure.

Networks will be offering zoom that it will manage for its client mediators during the session at a reduced fee from face to face. Your thoughts?
Gary Furlong
01:38:26
Haven't heard that yet, love to see what they'd be offering!
Bernard Morrow
01:41:42
Network sent an email to its users this morning with this information. Unclear in the email what the cost will be and how they will assist. May be a difficult sell to clients who are being weaned on access to Zoom directly from mediators at no additional cost.
Sharad Kerur
01:41:57
Excellent points, Jane.

01:43:42
Do you spend time with the party at in-take to help them to get comfortable with the technology and alleviate concerns?

I offer a free demo to all clients, Sharad, to orient clients, put them at ease and build trust.

Good suggestion, Bernard.
Peter Bruer
01:47:30
Can co-mediation help, by having a partner who can post docs, chat, etc? Can co-mediators go to separate rooms?
Gary Furlong
01:48:35
co-mediators in separate rooms is possible, but one would have to be a party, not the host, I think.
Mardi Edelstein
01:52:23
I believe you can assign a co-host...and they can share they're screen as well.
Colm Brannigan
01:52:45
Yes

I know a couple of family co-mediators who do co-mediation online extremely successfully.
