If you have questions, you can also add them to the chat. We will come back to this when we open up for questions.
Paul Barrett
21:36
I may have missed if this was already answered but will these slides be made available after the session?
Lena Paulo Kushnir
22:10
@Paul Yes! we are recording this session but I'm also happy
Lena Paulo Kushnir
22:14
to share slides
Paul Barrett
23:16
Thx!

29:20
Could you create a chart of functions for each of these 4 main platforms/tools? Or maybe you have already done that… :)
Lena Paulo Kushnir
29:26
I will show you where to find this new resourc
Lena Paulo Kushnir
29:31
you bet!!
jenniferschacker
29:37
thanks
Stephanie Nutting
29:44
Why did the two of you choose Zoom over Teams?
schuylergilbert
30:17
many of us already use course link, could you summarise why we would want to add zoom — what it offers that is an improvement on course link for
Lena Paulo Kushnir
30:23
better for rural connections... and I'm in a really bad pocket... I'm currently tethered to my phone!
Stephanie Nutting
31:23
Thanks Lena
Lena Paulo Kushnir
31:33
@stephanie you can use it right in CourseLink through the integration, e.g., in a module
Lena Paulo Kushnir
31:52
more in a bit when we can demo if folks want to see that
Monica
37:12
NYTimes Wirecutter headset recommendation - Jabra Elite 75. I’m using it and it’s great.
cbush
38:07
Thanks, Monica.
shenigha
39:08
How do you make a recording? What equipment do I need to have?
Carolyn Creighton
41:42
@Shenigha, we have a resource on our site that outlines what equipment you need to make a recording. I'll provide a link once I am done displaying the PPT slides.
marklipton
43:10
We are all chipmunks! Or will be after we go online and give students that agency!
shickson
43:30
hahaha - I was just thinking that
shickson
44:20
Sorry - what are we recording? Like, a screen share?
denishuneault
44:54
I was about to mention that! lol
shickson
44:57
I've always wanted a wardrobe department for lectures!
Pablo Ramirez
45:10
Me, too!
Carolyn Creighton
45:28
@shickson, it could be a screen share. There are a lot of options for what can be recorded.
Maya G
45:37
Different set of pyjamas for each lecture
shickson
45:50
Because I'm picturing recording me standing there giving a lecture and that makes no sense -
Carolyn Creighton
47:01
Many of the screen capture tools will allow you to capture your webcam and screen at the same time.

48:26
I have a question
marklipton
49:53
do we have access to D2L’s brightspace as part of courselink?
shickson
52:25
You have more crowd control in Zoom - you can mute their mics -
Donald Bruce
52:32
You haven't discussed AODA: supposedly we have to meet compliance requirements (eg. captioning). Could you go into this please.
Renee Worringer
56:01
Dominic - I did a bit of that video voiceover on powerpoint slides and found that students have to download the pp file in order to access the sound - and if your files are big, it sucks for students to have to download. They won't do it!
Sandra Rechico
57:24
We can save in One Drive up to something like 5TB
shenigha
59:01
Thank you, Chris! For me (& others, I'm sure) CourseLink is simply a grades book.
jenniferschacker
59:11
What about prezi. It is web-based, you can do voice over, provide links to students to view each presentation. I have been using prezi exclusively in large lecture classes (never PowerPoint) since 2008
Lena Paulo Kushnir
01:00:47
@jennifer good question! I don't use prezi but will investigate and get back to you.
Stephanie Nutting
01:03:21
Did you day that Virtual classroom allows a max of seven students?
Denise Mohan
01:03:22
Carolyn, each link to a lecture/meeting in virtual classroom is a link to a file to be streamed from another server?
Chris Lee
01:04:04
Stephanie - it was 150 students for Virtual Classroom. But max of 7 on screen at once. Unlike in Zoom where you can see a lot more at once.
jenniferschacker
01:04:11

Thanks, Jennifer!
Alena Barysevich
01:06:40
Course Lank versus TopHat? Pros and cons?
Sandra Rechico
01:06:55
I would also like to know about close captioning in VC and zoom
jenniferschacker
01:06:56
The q is — have prezi’s developers (who are usually pretty much on the cutting edge) developed captioning for the VoiceOver function…going to look into it
Frederique
01:06:57
so, just to be clear, can prerecorded lectures be on Virtual Classroom?
Maya G
01:08:08
Frederique, virtual classroom is for synchronous lectures. You will post prerocorded lecture links on course link.
Frederique
01:08:51
Got it, Thanks Maya!
Marta McCarthy
01:09:49
What Skye is asking would be great to music too!
Denise Mohan
01:10:15
Zoom is not in the list of add-on links when editing the navbar in CourseLink. Virtual Classroom is a listed add-on. How do I add Zoom?
Michelle
01:11:17
denise there are instructions here: https://opened.uoguelph.ca/instructor-resources/resources/Zoom_Security_Privacy_BestPractices.pdf
Denise Mohan
01:13:06
Thank you!
Jacqueline
01:14:56
Tip sheets are not always helpful. How do we access individual one-on-one help?
Monica
01:15:36
novice question - where does one find the ‘embed’ code on a youtube video
denishuneault
01:15:48
good question!
AW
01:16:19
The embed code is under the video.
denishuneault
01:16:31
under?
Sandra Rechico
01:17:45
Closed captioning in zoom and accessing zoom on courseilnk
Matthew Hayday
01:20:17
Will it be possible to access the video recording of those other webinars afterwards (like the Zoom one on Friday), if we are unable to attend during that time slot?
marklipton
01:20:20
Is it possible for us to set up a
Chris Lee
01:20:45
to Matthew - yes!
marklipton
01:20:55
Sorry… is it possible for us to set up a dummy course on courselink so as to practice and play?
Lena Paulo Kushnir
01:20:57
@ Mark: Yes!
Lena Paulo Kushnir
01:21:27
@Mark: we're happy to provide you with a "sandbox"
Lena Paulo Kushnir
01:21:50
pls send request to courselink support
Judith Thompson
01:27:10
how do you arrange multiple break out rooms for the students to meet and discuss together in groups of two or three
Denise Mohan
01:28:32
Re secure access: Open Learners often don't have a uog email address.
cbush
01:28:48
Yes I’d also like to know about the breakout group Zoom function
Monica
01:30:25
When we set up zoom meetings in Courselink, can we also access the link to put it in the syllabus ? or do students have to go to the Zoom module to access the link each time?
Jacqueline
01:31:46
Can you set permanent break out groups for the semester?
shenigha
01:37:22
Does Zoom have any function which resembles a physical blackboard? I'm teaching an advanced Spanish grammar course. I usually put sentences on the blackboard and invite them to work out the right verb tense and conjugation. This is free-flowing and spontaneous: I choose my sentences in response to the problems they had five minutes ago. Is there anything that would enable us to work together in this way?
Denise Mohan
01:38:50
Zoom audio transcript possible in language other than English?
shenigha
01:39:12
I second Denise's question. My lectures are not in English.
Chris Lee
01:39:19
Stephen, in Zoom you can do a screen share. So for example a blank Microsoft Word document could be your blackboard which you share with students.
shenigha
01:40:24
Where does one go to srt up those settings?
Sandra Rechico
01:40:25
How can we annotate
Sandra Rechico
01:40:47
You can save whiteboard on zoom, bottom right of whiteboaard
cbush
01:40:51
Where do we access the whiteboard?
Sandra Rechico
01:42:02
Only one participant at a time
Sandra Rechico
01:42:17
My view options does not have the annotate option
denishuneault
01:42:38
same for me
Sandra Rechico
01:42:44
Mac?
denishuneault
01:42:51
i’m on a mac as well
cbush
01:42:51
I’m on Mac and can annotate
Andrew Bailey
01:42:53
I’m on a Mac and I have it
Jacqueline
01:42:57
I have a pc and not annotate p
denishuneault
01:43:06
i’m on the app
Paul
01:43:11
i can annotate on my mac
rosariogomez
01:44:43
Is there a way of knowing who has added which annotations?
Sandra Rechico
01:45:15
If I am a host I get a close caption option but it asks me to obtain an API token. How do I do that?
Carolyn Creighton
01:45:52
@Sandra, I'll look into this
denishuneault
01:46:30
thanks to whoever directed mac s to the top green bar!
Monica
01:46:32
does zoom do polls?
Carolyn Creighton
01:46:39
Yes, Zoom does polls!
marklipton
01:46:54
Thanks for this!!!
Monica
01:47:23
can you demonstrate that?
cbush
01:48:38
yes
denishuneault
01:48:40
yes!
cbush
01:49:16
Thank you.
Monica
01:51:00
Thanks for this! The Q and A have been especially helpful.
Jacqueline
01:51:57
Thanks alot
Sandra Rechico
01:51:58
How may devices can we link in to zoom
Carolyn Creighton
01:52:14
Zoom supports 300 participants
Peter Goddard
01:52:15
Keeping track of participation is a limitation in D2L as well. If you want to assign a participation grade in Courselink poll you have to use quiz instead.
Denise Mohan
01:53:00
If using Qualtrics, would we embed the URL to the poll question(s) in our class presentation?
Sandra Rechico
01:53:23
Which doc camera do you use?
rosariogomez
01:59:41
Thank you.
Sandra Rechico
01:59:41
Thank you!
Paul
01:59:58
excellent presentation
Denise Mohan
