Can someone’s pulse ox be normal by compensating with an increased respiratory rate? If someone is feeling like they have an increased work of breathing but their pulse ox is normal can we still confidently tell them they are okay?
sheehanp
52:20
Should we be reassuring them in this manner, or taking information and telling the patient next steps then giving other resources?
sheehanp
53:58
Can we email or text resources to patients if they ask for that?
Cody Mebane Gibbons
54:39
Chloe is crushing it

Hi, can we get access to the google drive folder?
Katie Ashmore Zinler
58:07
Sorry updated the sharing
Bipasha Biswas
58:30
patients will not be wearing the pulse oximeter all the time - or - are they? Should the script not ask the patient to sit down or lie down and then take the pulse oximeter reading for accurate info?
Jeremy Taylor
58:49
is there a script for leaving a voice mail. i came on late so, apologizes if this was already covered.
Chloe Sciammas
59:22
Bipasha - The patients will only use the oximeter when they are checking on their reading. They will be taught how to use it correctly by a physician before we call. Does that answer your question?
Bipasha Biswas
01:00:20
Yes - thanks Chloe. The script kind of assumed the patient is wearing it at that time!
Chloe Sciammas
01:00:36
Jeremy - If they don’t answer, call 30 min later. If they don’t answer again, call again 60 min later. If they still don’t answer, let the physician hotline know.
Jeremy Taylor
01:01:11
thanks chole
Chloe Sciammas
01:01:11
Bipasha - Great point. Thanks for bringing that to our attention!
Meaghan Primm
01:13:03
is there a protocol for when someone misplaces a pulse oximeter?
bethany
01:13:33
do we transfer patients to the hotline? or expect them to call the hotline or does the hotline call them?
Jeremy Taylor
01:13:38
since we might not know what is dire, will we get a list of things/types that require immediate attention i.e. oximeter reading at 32.
Chloe Sciammas
01:14:48
Meaghan - If that is the case, take note of that on your patient log and ask them if they have contacted their provider for a new one. If not, we will talk to their provider.
Chloe Sciammas
01:16:10
Clarification: Let a staff/lead volunteer know!
Bipasha Biswas
01:16:30
This is just a suggestion - it might be helpful to train volunteers to know and understand anxiety attacks from SOB. Also any thoughts on volunteer self care? Sorry - this is the social worker in me talking!
sheehanp
01:17:54
To be clear - if the patient needs/wants to talk to provider, we text or call the hotline, then the provider calls the patient back?
Eric
01:18:20
Can a oximeter be used on a toe if the person has accidentally put on nail polish?
Luis Manriquez
01:18:38
a pulse oximeter can be used on fingers or toes
sheehanp
01:19:13
Luis - thumbs?
Luis Manriquez
01:19:34
I do not want a community volunteer trying to decide if someone has anxiety or pneumonia, I want a provider to make that decision so please forward that to providers
Luis Manriquez
01:19:48
thumbs too
Luis Manriquez
01:20:25
we will be checking in with volunteers to see how they are doing and if we can support them
Luis Manriquez
01:21:33
you text or call the provider and the provider calls back, if you text make sure you get confirmation from the provider that they got the text
sheehanp
01:21:59
Thank you
Bipasha Biswas
01:23:44
what are we supposed to tell patients who need a provider to call them but are terrified because of public charge?
Anna Vamvakias
01:24:08
?..
Anna Vamvakias
01:24:27
what mean?
Bipasha Biswas
01:24:50
Public Charge - people can get deported for seeking medical assistance - short version
Luis Manriquez
01:25:04
we are prioritizing getting people care if they need it, we will get guidance from SRHD about concerns with immigration enforcement
Luis Manriquez
01:25:51
my understanding as of now is that hospitals are not providing any information not required by law
Bipasha Biswas
01:25:59
thank you Luis. I work with refugees and immigrants. We need a moratorium here with public charge.
Bipasha Biswas
01:26:12
