Someone who is secure enough to admit when they are wrong or if someone else has a good idea and is open to growth
Melissa Bales
30:05
Trying to be as flexible as possible with all my faculty & fellows as life has changed. Keeping my PD in the loop as well as my fellows - keeping my calendar up to date.
Michelle Brooks
30:47
Gretchen- I'm TOTALLY same.
Amy Gaug
30:51
Same here Gretchen. :)
Dawn DeSantis
30:55
Advocating for the team when people question why we are working from home
Melissa Bales
31:08
Agreed. I tend to let my PD know something is done, but no one else.
Ashley Thurston
34:06
I've seen this person called a "Connector"
Emily Strong
35:19
I do this on a personal level during interview season and find out the things outside of work they like to do. SO, if they have dogs, I will tell them about all of the dog friendly places, etc. If they like to hike, I tell them about our parks. Then when I follow up with them after interviews I will ask about those things.
Charlene Rotandi
35:59
This really resonates with me as a leader, giving others on the team an opportunity to share ideas, to be creative and innovate
Charlene Rotandi
36:14
Really allowing them to bring their voice.
megan christofferson
37:06
This could also be called a sponsor
Dawn DeSantis
37:11
I am often saying, "What do you think about...?" We've hired and trained a good team, we need to continue to trust their knowledge and abilities.
Debbie Cini
37:14
In my previous life, I worked in ob/gyn and was the only coordinator and did everything myself. When I moved to Peds, I had a team and it took time for me to learn to trust and delegate to others.
Charlene Rotandi
40:41
Creating opportunities to celebrate others, especially publicly! I want others to know what amazing work is being done and find opportunities to highlight them.
Michelle Brooks
41:31
I like keeping a running list on my phone when someone says they like something, or something is their favorite, for if they are having a bad day, or have a birthday
Emily Strong
41:35
That is THE BEST idea!!!!!
Charlene Rotandi
41:45
Birthday cards, yes!
Melissa Bales
41:56
Celebrating when our PICU family grows - picture emails for our 2 fellows that became fathers. Putting welcome bags on the desks of our new fellows. Surprise chocolate bars on fellow desks when the week has been rough.
Stephanie Starry
42:01
I love to bake, so I make sure and make treats on our fellows' birthdays and PD. And on resident training day as well as other special occasions. It's a small program so it's not very overwhelming. We created a get to know me form so we always have the ideas at hand.
Emily Strong
42:06
Decorating the desks with pics from their apps.
Melissa Bales
42:21
Each fellow gets a coffee gift card on their birthday! Can't live without caffeine!
Emily Strong
42:42
My best friend owns a bakery, so I bring in goodies randomly, and as rewards if needed lol
Dawn DeSantis
43:19
I'm Superbad at this. I often appreciate but don't often say it. So, I'm trying to reach out the moment i'm thinking it, even if it's just a text and tell the person how much I appreciate them.
Leeanna Fox Irwin
43:48
That's great Dawn! Way to flex!
Michelle Brooks
44:54
#alwayssharethegoodgossip! We need to know what nice things are being said about us when we aren't around! :)
Gretchen Shawver
44:55
Dawn - I am trying to do the same thing!
Leslie Breton
45:34
Being specific about what makes them special and unique
Debbie Cini
45:44
We have these things called Bravo-grams that you can send to anyone in the institution. I send them randomly to anyone who goes above and beyond to help me out. A copy goes to them and their manager.
megan christofferson
46:07
Bravo-grams sound wonderful!
megan christofferson
46:26
@leslie, yes it’s all about recognizing people as individuals
Leeanna Fox Irwin
46:26
Debbie - we have those called Ovations. Sometimes they are even tied to physical rewards.
Charlene Rotandi
46:28
Beth—this is totally you!
Debbie Cini
47:08
@Leeanna.....managers can also send Bravo points and folks can collect them and turn them in for goodies which is great.
Charlene Rotandi
47:16
Oh yes, Becky is a visionary!
megan christofferson
47:22
We appreciate you, Becky!
Becky Blankenburg
47:35
Thank you -- that's very sweet!
megan christofferson
48:14
Visionaries are so important. I am not as much of one. I need to look at all the minute details
Michelle Brooks
50:17
It's hard to get everyone to see a shared vision via emails and zoom- definitely a challange for the current time!
Becky Blankenburg
50:22
As coordinators and pediatric education specialists, you play such an important role in inspiring a vision -- helping people see the bigger picture among the many "to do" items. You can see blind spots that we might not see.
megan christofferson
50:41
ALL THE TIME
Emily Strong
50:43
This is definitely a blind spot for me - I think I get discouraged when someone isn’t ready for change or open to change - especially when I’m trying to convince a PD or Division Chief.
Beth Wueste - UT Health SA
50:54
I don't think there is anything that CAN'T be done
Dawn DeSantis
51:06
We need to not be afraid. Sometimes we have a vision but not sure how to get there and that can be scary for us as we are generally the ones who make things happen.
Anna Dusseau
51:16
it can be hard to let go of control too so working with peers helps. stepping back and reviewing later is important to do, while educating our PDs, etc.
megan christofferson
51:17
My mind immediately jumps to barriers, not to say it can’t be done, but to know what I need to solve first to get it done
megan christofferson
51:36
This can be read as me being negative
Sharon Deegan
52:02
same Megan. I don't want to seem negative, so I call it practical.
Michelle Brooks
52:33
same Megan! I like to start with "I really like this- here are some considerations?"
Charlene Rotandi
52:57
This is my blind spot at the program level, I try to flex in this area by finding opportunities for collaboration and helping others —PCs— see that benefits of engaging in scholarship opportunities
Charlene Rotandi
56:37
Each new academic year offers an opportunity to experiment and innovate — change evaluations, processes, etc.
Leeanna Fox Irwin
57:30
When our CMO just started he had thousands of buttons made that said "This is the way we've always done it" with a line though it.
Melissa Bales
57:46
LOVE IT!!!
Beth Wueste - UT Health SA
58:32
It is important to note the difference between challenging the culture and challenging a process.
Latanya Pickett
58:44

Emily Strong
01:04:11

Emily Strong
01:04:35
Sounds perfect!!
Sharon Deegan
01:04:36
I definitely need to work on enabling.
Melissa Bales
01:04:44
I would say enable and encourage. Maybe model. The others I need to work on a lot.
Cassandra Shorter
01:05:03
