57:25
Thanks guys...Keep Rayshard Brooks family in your prayers. People of

57:50
color should not be killed by police

58:34
no should be killed for

59:42
The liberation of Black Men, Black Women, and Black Trans folks is liberation for all.

59:46
Itโs also important to have a multi-faceted approach to impact change, protests are a critical aspect - but the depth of systemic racism needs to be hit on all fronts.

01:00:11
Spend your money with ppl who support your values.

01:00:22
ppl/companies

01:00:30
Yes Kabir!! I 100% agree

01:01:06
Agreed. I've been hosting roundtable discussions recently to help people understand the movement better. Some are so intimidated by the protests they become resistant to hearing the message at times

01:01:40
We white folks have our own work to do, which will often be uncomfortable.

01:02:19
I think my fellow white people. We need to sit in our challenges that make us uncomfortable.

01:02:37
What I love about the protests is there are many shades of color protesting police brutality.

01:02:39
Yes, and educate ourselves!

01:03:31
People are working together to obliterate systemic racism. We need to keep our foot on the gas!

01:04:52
Right on, Mike. YES

01:05:08

01:09:54
Hi everyone, the following are the focus questions for the breakout! 1) What does support look like for you in your program or community? 2) What type of action feels meaningful in the circles you're part of? 3) What do you need from YouthBuild USA to support this action?

01:12:12
How do we join the group.

01:43:30
Great to see everyone!

01:44:46
Shout-out to breakout 6! Such an insightful conversation thank you to all who shared their thoughts.

01:45:38

01:47:44

01:49:47
Breakout Room 9

01:50:26
Thanks, Jeremy. :)

01:52:11
Yes, great opportunity to change policing policy that is being discussed in every locality. We can use Youth Policy Committee to help guide this. What would we like to see. Whether ending Qualified Immunity or "Defunding the Police" that reallocates resources to other more effective community services. This fits well into our Leadership Component and there are past examples of young people affecting change

01:53:05
Qualified Immunity! Thats major Charles

01:53:57
And teaching our youth their rights and how to โClearly Establishโ them when they encounter a police officer.

01:54:57
Before we finish the call, can we address that "influencing legislation" is an AmeriCorps prohibited activity and how we can work around that? Talking to our young people about the impact that influencing legislation is majorly important right now.

01:55:28
*impact that influencing legislation has, sorry about that

01:55:37
I think the answer is to make sure the members don't have any AMeriCorps gear on. YOu should be safe after that.

01:55:48
^

01:56:02
Yeah, we need some non-uniform days right now for sure!

01:58:43
Thank you Elizabeth!

01:58:57
Yes Elizabeth!!! YES WE CAN

01:59:58
Thank you, Elizabeth!

02:01:13
YES!!!

02:01:34
Also, to develop other curriculum based on the BP model - that teaches academic skills through social justice lens, with suggested activities that demand the incorporation of local realities (the way that Blueprint For Democracy is developed)

02:02:04
We were group 9 and all but one of us are white. We talked about how it is long overdue for white people to be uncomfortable with the history of our country.

02:02:31
The Blueprint for Democracy Curriculum is great but we need to update it with information for the last few years. I can support this as I have used this over the years as part of the Youthbuild Movement.

02:03:41
Neil Qusba and Eliska also mentioned that there are international social justice strategies that we should consult and contextualize to our communities.

02:04:40
Definitely -love that idea of connecting youth!

02:05:03
9 was awesome

02:06:01
Eliska also mentioned the specific role of white people and making sure white staff in predominantly white YB's are properly informing white students. Also using privilege to impact local power to impact policies

02:08:57
I like that Charles

02:12:40
Well said Charles, thank you!
