Welcome everyone. For any questions to the panel and Dr Kituyi, please use the Q&A chat function

59:19
These are horrific times caused by this novel pandemic which requires a global response, ie all countries. What do we do with some countries that still are in denial of this sad reality we are in for political or religious beliefs?

01:02:45
What do the panelists foresee as the future of work for the many young people in Africa post Covid 19

01:07:56
yes totally support debt cancellation as option to mitigate covid 19 effects

01:08:13
What is your opinion on the COVID-19's impact on governance on such things as: 1. reduce corruption and increase accountability 2. restart local production - agriculture, industrialization, tourism etc 3. Innovation/ self starters to deal with our challenges?

01:09:52
Given our porous borders, how can our control efforts be effective if each nation has varying levels of interventions and control of the pandemic

01:12:35
What kind of donation or support are really needed?

01:18:55

01:21:32
To convince developed countries to accept our pleas for debt forgiveness, we must first address the ills of corruption among our leaders. When the ill gotten assets of an individual in Africa is sufficient to pay a huge portion of his/her country's debts, it'll be difficult to expect developed countries to forgive our debts. Therefore, transparency, participation and accountability must be addressed as precursor for emancipation from poverty in Africa, as well as over dependence on the West.

01:22:32
Totally agree

01:23:54
there is an issue of corruption with western private companies as well. It should be addressed both ways

01:24:15
international trade disruption could represent an opportunity to finally plan and achieve food sovereignty at continental level

01:27:11
totally agree @ Robert! I also hope that this has opened the eyes of Africans and 'educated' the population more on the impact of electing populist leaders vs good leaders

01:30:23
Amen

01:30:25
This is a chicken and egg question. If African leaders value their own and believe in building Africa, they'll not give or take from any western private company. They'll invest on the continent and build local economies. I agree with Dr Kituyi that we have all it takes to an industrialized continent; we should use the opportunity. That's a good take home message for me. Thanks for the great presentation, Dr. Kituyi.

01:31:57
Good point, Robert, but in the meanwhile debt servicing will pile up

01:32:09
Yes, it is recorded and the link will be shared with those who signed up
