How long does it take to move people from the waiting room? I'm curious to know what to look forward to for this fall.
Rich Couto
18:40
You can let everyone in at once, but we are comparing names on entry to the registrant list
Carolyn Creighton
19:17
Darren, there will be some updates coming to the waiting room that will streamline the process for larger classes. Info on that will be available in July
Rich Couto
19:36
so its a longer process, because some names don't match the list. If your using CourseLink integration, I don't think we are recommending a Waiting Room (Carolyn can confirm)
Cheryl Trueman
19:54
I was wondering the same thing! Good to know about the integration with Courselink/
Darren Robinson
20:17
Thanks @Rich and @Carolyn. Very interesting, and good to know.
Carolyn Creighton
21:07
Zoom is updating to allow certain domains to by-pass the waiting room. We will be able to set this to allow particiapants who access Zoom via CourseLink to enter more easily.
Deidre Rose
25:17
I heard that there would be workshops, but I cannot find a link to register. I am teaching a large class in the fall and would really like to get started setting up for remote delivery.
Carolyn Creighton
25:51
Hi Deirde, we are still in the planning stages. We hope to have the schedule out early next week.
Carolyn Creighton
26:27
We will be sending out a survey to all webinar participants to find out what tools you are most interested in going more in depth with.
Deidre Rose
27:46
Perfect, thank you!
Rich Couto
31:05
Well link that for everyone in the Materials when the recording is posted.
Darren Robinson
34:40
Were your video announcements done on a regular, basis (eg. every week)? And how long were they?
Rich Couto
35:21
@Darren you can use the CourseLink announcement and Video Note.
Rich Couto
36:29
Just a reminder that Recordings and Materials mentioned in this webinar will be made available on our Remote Teaching Webinar Series page. https://opened.uoguelph.ca/instructor-resources/remote-teaching-webinar-series#Webinar7
Darren Robinson
36:59
Thanks @Rich.
Monica
37:18
would these video messages be posted in the Announcements of the LMS?
Andrea Buchholz
38:21
Without this software, can you do this with a recorded Zoom video?
Rich Couto
38:47
@Andrea yes, its recording are available through a webpage
Rich Couto
39:10
ugh.. sorry misread that @Andrea
Andrea Buchholz
39:43
No worries, Rich. Carolyn said she would show us a video note tool in the Tool Tour
Lynda Ashbourne
41:02
is feedback re: video announcements included in any categories on these results charts?
Cheryl Trueman
41:52
do you know how embedded quizzes in a prerecorded lecture compare to polls in a synchronous lecture?
Jacqueline Murray
42:18
How large were the study groups? Random of self selected.? Stable membership over term?
Carolyn Creighton
43:24
@Jacqueline, we'll talk a little bit more about study groups and their organization a little bit later in the webinar
Carolyn Creighton
43:49
@Cheryl, I'll let Rich talk about the creation of embedded quizzes. We do have some options available on campus.
Monica
50:18
Would Lena be willing to share an example of one of her video messages?
Lena Paulo Kushnir
53:27
@Monica: certainly! I'll dig one up and we'll post in our post-Webinar resources
Rich Couto
57:57
@Monica, actually I belive she has https://web.microsoftstream.com/video/150a52fe-8de0-4507-87fb-e12b1144cdda (for after the webinar ;) )
Jacqueline Murray
57:58
is there a type of course appropriate/benefits from lecture only?
Steffen Graether
01:00:49
Is there a separate category for “not written”? Sometimes Courselink treats an absent grade different than a zero grade.
Lena Paulo Kushnir
01:01:31
@Rich, that is an example of a pre-course Welcome video... you could make messages this way too, but seems like more work and higher production value... for video messaging/announcements, I'm recommending much lower hanging fruit and easy to start, record, stop, email kind of approach.
Sarah Schorno
01:02:28
If you have more than one instructor in a course, can you set up the intelligent agent to be "sent" by one instructor vs the other?
Sarah Schorno
01:02:59
Yes
Darren Robinson
01:03:32
Can you change the setting mid-course, when the new instructor takes over lecturing?
Sarah Schorno
01:03:34
For example, if a course has a lecture vs lab component, can lab-based "issues" be sent by one person then lectures be sent by the other?
Sarah Schorno
01:04:10
Thanks! :)
Lynda Ashbourne
01:06:31
could courselink folks consider changing auto-send time to earlier in the day? I intentionally moved my own communication with students to M-F daytimes in March/April to model/support a bit of life balance and not spark thinking about courses/performance in the evenings... a wellness strategy if you will.
Rich Couto
01:08:29
@Lynda we will forward that suggestion on your behalf.
Lynda Ashbourne
01:08:50
THanks!
Rich Couto
01:09:15
i agree that work/life balance is gotten a little harder in this new environment.
Deidre Rose
01:12:03
Is there a way to allow students to opt out of these kinds of IA email missives?
John Ferguson
01:12:42
Can you test the intelligent agent first to see what it looks like to recipients?
Deidre Rose
01:13:44
I have had students with severe anxiety who would not appreciate these, would I be able to manually remove them in this case?
Darren Robinson
01:13:58
So, it might be too much to use the IA for weekly discussions or quizzes then.
John Ferguson
01:14:00
Is there a legend somewhere to indicate the meaning of terms like "OriginatingUser" etc.
Rich Couto
01:15:31
@john we also have a full listing on our Intelligent Agent Tip sheet https://opened.uoguelph.ca/instructor-resources/resources/Using-CourseLink-Intelligent-Agents.pdf
Deidre Rose
01:18:28
Sorry, I have to leave I have an appointment to see my mom!!! Thank you all for this session.
Lena Paulo Kushnir
01:23:32
LOVE this!! this is the "stuff" I was talking about!
Cynthia Eden
01:25:17
Love the captioning function. It has been a vital tool in my courses.
Steffen Graether
01:25:37
Where do we request a demo student account to test out some of the intelligent agent features?
Andrea Buchholz
01:25:52
Can you view the video note before publishing it?
michelle elleray
01:25:56
does the captioning tool work if you’ve uploaded a prerecorded file? or only if you use the video note function?
Rich Couto
01:26:03
courselink@uoguelph.ca can set that up for you.
Andrea Buchholz
01:26:14
Thanks
Rich Couto
01:27:18
@Michelle, we'll investigate if the captioning tool works on an uploaded prerecorded file (my expectations is that it does).
Jacqueline Murray
01:27:51
Can these titles be changed for a specific course?
Lena Paulo Kushnir
01:29:56
awesome! I just learned something new!
Kris
01:30:21
Same! :)!
Rob McLaughlin
01:30:42
Can students turn captions on and off at their end?
Lena Paulo Kushnir
01:30:47
I agree! :-)
michelle elleray
01:30:53
for those of us with non-north american accents, how well does the captioning work? (mail trees on phone systems often can’t work out what i’m saying . . .)
Rob McLaughlin
01:31:01
Excellent. Thanks.
michelle elleray
01:31:50
thx!
Lena Paulo Kushnir
01:31:57
Canadian company... I'll be interested to see this too
Monica
01:35:40
where can one find ‘sent mail’ in courselink?
Char
01:36:29
The classlists I send to exceed 600 students. Is there a limit on the number of students who can be emailed on one email in CourseLink, as with Outlook?
Rich Couto
01:36:46
@Monica I don't believe it stores that email. I will investigate, but I believe that's why we recommend including your self in BCC, or sending the email to yourself.
Rich Couto
01:37:49
@Char, I will investigate but the emails sends are handled by the server so it should not be an issue. The server will "chunk" them up as necessary. All of which is transparent to the process.
Char
01:41:33
Great! Thanks!
