Isn't the media also to blame for this?
Mandy Evans
57:14
YES , Erika!
Amanda Arrington
59:10
Absolutely, Erika. There are stories, messages, imagery that people see every day in the media that create and reinforce bias.
Mandy Evans
01:15:12
I disagree
Kay Joubert
01:19:19
I wonder if a group like Heartsspeak might be able to help with some of the messaging and images to avoid those challenges; and then make those available for others to use?
Jeanne Saadi
01:19:21
That makes a lot of sense, Amanda. I look forward to seeing that.
Andy
01:20:25
We need to celebrate and demonstrate the human animal bond in all background situation.

Amanda can you possibly send out the PFL reading list that you have? If you could send it to Steph she could send it out maybe
Aleisha Swartz
01:23:00
Yes, we can send the PFL reading list out again with the recording!
Gina Thompson
01:23:15
Thanks!
Sara Pizano
01:23:22
That’s perfect Sandra-those testimonials are crucial and so powerful.
Cynda Crawford
01:24:30
Totally agree with you Mandy!
karenward
01:25:02
I absolutely agree Mandy
Erika Leckington
01:25:07
But Amanda - uplifting stories doesn't bring in the money, animal victims and victimizing people does ;) (We are told this often when we only focus on the positive)
Jeanne Saadi
01:25:13
That’s a good way to look at it, Mandy. Thanks
Amanda Arrington
01:25:43
I hear that all the time, Erika! I've challenged my own organization that we say that without ever even trying other stories.
Jeanne Saadi
01:25:45
Eirka - have you tried it? I guarantee if you focus on what your organization has done rather than what someone did to an animal, you will still get $$
Mandy Evans
01:25:52
Erick- we bring in more money with our positive stories than negative ones. I would be happy to talk to you about it off line.
Jeanne Saadi
01:26:28
When you get all of your materials ready, how do make sure we get it?

01:26:31
We tried it with PFL at HSUS and the example is in our sustainability guide. We has the largest one day total of new donors and exceeded our goal five fold. It was hugely eye opening or our fundraising team
Erika Leckington
01:26:34
I believe you! And we focus on the positive, I just wish other orgs believed the same!
Sara Pizano
01:26:34

The study can start with the TV ads from a certain animal welfare organization....
Jyothi Robertson, DVM
01:30:14
This is such a crucial topic. Thank you for sharing this. I really appreciate your using the term “cultural humility” as well, as opposed to some of the other terms used to define worldview. I’m interested to see how others respond to this important work as you continue to present this.

mydogismyhome.org. It's is an organization focused on illuminating the human animal bond in homeless.
Aleisha Swartz

Jeanne we will be sure to share when their DEI guide comes out. I think we might be able to talk them in to coming back and having a follow up discussion. And also visiting the pfl website https://www.animalsheltering.org/programs/pets-for-life

How might we be perpetuating stereotypes and power imbalances by saying services are always offered for free?

But why are we assuming that “these groups” are homogenous and uniformly can’t afford to contribute something? Said another way, why take away their option to contribute if they want to?
Kathy Duncan
01:36:44
Great presentation and would love to have them back in the future!!
