Have you any further examples to support making the environment safe and welcoming for young people
Kirsty Hughes
42:03
Animals can take away some of the intensity ofwhat talking can bring with it and help engage. For example, if the young person sees the animal experiencing anxiety, then anxiety can be spoken about in relation to the animal and then conversation can link in to the person's experiences.

Bill & Nim are being very kind about the input of AoC. We were able to access money because Greater Manchester has a devolved health budget. But to be clear the investment from NHS via AoC was £10k per college which probably accelerated things: I suspect the work would have happened anyway!
Debbie Garroway

We are looking at the use of language as a college and the impact the language has on our students. Do you have any advice regarding the key words that have made the biggest difference

Lots of the things Nimisha mentions are things that we do, our pastoral team have all had ACES training, we focus on support and empathic conversations. The shift is spreading this out to all staff and making that culture shift around language and training staff to think differently about behaviour. Very useful info.

This has highlighted what we are already doing as a college and that we are going in the right direction, however, it has also given some excellent food for thought to develop further.
