12:27

MRonsano - thanks for letting us know. If the volume is still soft, would you be able to log out and back in, and turn up your speaker?

15:52
We’re informed Stuart to speak up as well :)

17:03
Should I be able to see or hear anything at this point? At this point I'm only seeing a black screen.

17:56
I am also just seeing a black screen:)

18:27
Building anticipation:)

23:00
Hi 12503 - we haven’t started yet but once we do and you encounter problems, can you log out and on again?

23:17

23:24
The webinar will be recorded as well should you wish to rewatch

23:57
Chantal - all attendees will have their video/audio off

24:00

24:35

31:15
We will send you the recording

31:22
me too

31:58
Next polling is up!

32:13
Hopefully you can see it now

33:05
Jenn D - we don’t have cc capabilities for this webinar but we will send everyone the recording

33:05
I still can't see it unfortunately :(

33:33
Sierrad - camera + audio are off for all attendees

33:50
Genoveffa/Caleigh - sorry to hear about this

34:33
Genoveffa/Caleigh - the recording will have the polling results so you can at least see them after the webinar

35:11
thank you!

35:20
Hello, speech is 'choppy' difficult to follow. Any suggestions?

35:25
s

35:57
Sima - it may be a connection issue with your internet

36:12
But we will have this recorded for you to rewatch

36:22
Could be for sure.

37:14
Tina - over 500+ attendees for the results

37:15
I don't know where to fill the answers in

37:17
Is it possible that the polls are only available to starling members? I don't see it either...

37:43
Polling questions should be available to all attendees

38:02
It could have something to do with pop-up blockers - we had the same issue yesterday with a meeting I was in.

38:03
Can you centre the pages on the screen? I am seeing parts

38:11
Could it be the device you are watching this presentation on? I've had trouble with things on my iPad before and find I have more success with viewing on my computer.

39:16
I am on a computer and I see parts again like this slide myself is where it starts and blocks out other words

41:21
at the top there is "view options" you should be able to change the zoom ratio to "fit to window"

41:36
Got it thanks Jenn D

41:48
Mine is at that setting.

42:39
For anyone experiencing screen, polling issues - we will be sending the recording out tomorrow so hopefully you can see the polling results at least then :)

43:31
She Doodles - you can share this webinar recording with whomever you would like

43:48
For the platform videos - our program is recommended for people 16 years or older

43:59
That’s better on my screen- thank you

44:12
...but I can't be part of the polling if I don't see any questions

44:26
excercise routine has been difficult for me

44:41
Genoveffa - so sorry about that, we’re not sure why you aren’t able to see the polling questions

44:48
It could be your settings on zoom

45:04
Sheila - there’s over 560+ in the webinar right now

49:24
I walk too - often - after work

51:35
Jenni - the recording will be available to you, though we won’t be able to share the slides

51:41
Would the recording work for you?

52:28
I find exercise is helping with feelings of anxiety, uncertainty, worry. It's hard but I try my best to try and work out every other day or so.

52:38
Sean - Starling Minds is available on any device so you would just need wifi to use it

52:59
It’s not tied to specific IOs

53:11
I’ve started some morning yoga and mobility just to force myself to start moving more and feeling physical. It’s been so cerebral!

53:23
I am lucky to have dogs, who help inspire me to get out for walking. I have also been lifting weights in the basement with my teen age sons. Exercise consistently helps me feel better.

53:44
E Ricci - thanks for your comment. Our program can also be used on mobile

53:48
If that helps!

54:01
Julian - great strategies!

55:44
Where will this presentation be available later? (Maybe I missed that info earlier?)

56:00
Sierrad - there’s no Starling app yet

56:04
:)

56:19
Natalia - so sorry to hear about what you’re going through

56:21
Tx

57:20
Natalia - would you be able to reach out to us after the webinar? We can direct you on how to help

59:35
Are Starling services available to us retired teachers. Still a BCTF member

01:00:08
Does your program introduce and teach people how to use EFT/Tapping to help manage their anxiety? Tapping is a very powerful tool that can have quick results to bring the stress level down

01:00:15
I am a recent BEd graduate and was recently hired as a TTOC. I was supposed to start on Apr. 1. Since COVID, I have been unable to work my first shift/ do my orientation. Since I am no longer a student I find myself unable to access support from my university and since I haven't worked a shift yet I am not regarded as an internal employee and feel left out of the COVID response. I am struggling financially and have been unable find help. What advice would you give someone in my position in terms of maintaining my mental health?I am also wondering if there is anyone else in similar situations?

01:00:35
I don't know exactly where it fits but I'd like to hear more about how events have hit me emotionally so unexpectedly or more intensely than I'd have expected. I thought I was doing better than my emotional unravelling yesterday over what "should have been" a simple change and would not have even been a blip pre-COVID.

01:01:50
How can our school district guarantee our health and safety at work if we are told we must return?

01:02:06
Do you have any daily motivation advice. I find myself keeping up with work ok, but most other things I can so easily put off to the endless tomorrows.

01:02:10
Where has our union been in supporting us?

01:05:36
Thank you for that questions, that’s my biggest fear!!

01:05:43
Jane A...have you tried reaching out to them?Maybe they just haven't publicized services available?

01:08:02
Thomas G, you are not alone.

01:08:56
Thank you Heidi!

01:10:08
I am struggling with being isolated from vulnerable family members living distances away from me.

01:10:41
Thomas--I am also a TTOC and have seen my whole livelihood disappear overnight. I've focused on researching what financial supports are out there provincially and federally. And mentally I've been leaning on services like this and talking with friends.

01:11:37
Heidi and Thomas...I hope you've applied for either EI or CERB?

01:12:21
Yes I have

01:12:26
CERB folks: blv you have to re-apply for CERB every month. Just FYI

01:13:03
finding joy and fun again...try searching online for a list of pleasurable activities and choose one a day or while we are at home one in each chunk of day

01:13:16
My daughter applied once for CERB and is getting it without reapplying

01:13:34
Anyone have trouble with insomnia

01:14:06
The thought balancer tool has been amazingly helpful to me. I’ve been using it for a couple of years now after learning it here, and it helps SO much.

01:14:26
Jacky yes lots of insomnia.

01:14:41
yes having issues with insomnia!

01:15:04
And nightmares.

01:15:05
Is there a website where we can access these tools to strengthen mental health?

01:15:35
Re Andrew's comments about steps towards well-being: have you listened to the "10% Happier" podcast from Dan Harris?

01:16:00
I'm dealing with major insomnia which made me super anxious about not sleeping and now it has snowballed. Jenn and Maureen what have you done with it

01:16:10
Rosa have you seen the Starling Minds site? It’s full of courses and tools, super super helpful

01:16:21
Heidi, that is excellent advice. I have done some research which is how I found out about this webinar. I feel like this community will help me a lot, my friends are not very understanding of my situation since most of them work in industries that have been able to easily switch to working at home. I have been feeling like I am alone but it really helps to hear there are others that understand and are in the same boat.I really like what Andrew said about the balance of emotional regulation, goal setting, and thought balancing. This is a great start.Mick, I have applied but since I have been in school for the past 16 months I was unable to work and even with the lowered requirements, I still don't qualify for CERB. It has been a stressful situation

01:16:36
I haven't. starling.com?

01:16:41
insomnia... try relaxation breathing a few times in the day and before bed so that it’s not your response to not sleeping...look up box breathing

01:16:43
Rosa yes

01:16:56
starlingminds.com

01:17:23
thank you

01:17:32
I’m interested in learning more about boundaries. They’re not easy for me to establish or stick to.

01:18:26
Jacky and Jenn it’s a struggle, the insomnia, the anxious tossing and turning and the nightmares. I sometimes take cannabis to help with sleep, when it gets too much and I just need a good night’s sleep. I’m also setting boundaries about no work at all after 5pm, journalling to get rid of some of the anxious mental chatter, and using Headspace app for meditations and sleep help, Calm.com for sleep stories. This has helped.

01:18:49
I have a colleague who started working as a grocery clerk for strictly financial reasons Very hard choice he had to make.

01:19:13
I am scared I will get cover 19. I can’t stop thinking about it. Any advice?

01:20:01
jkellybratt, that may be only choice right now as well...

01:20:20
may be my* only choice as well

01:20:23
Should say covid 19

01:21:03
remember to be kind with yourself everyone, this is an unprecedented time. if you can do a bit each day for students and your self and family you are doing well. remember you didn’t start as a fantastic classroom teacher that developed over time...working from home and teaching online will develop overtime. add one thing a week.

01:22:47
change your approach to connecting with students and where they are at and see if you get more.. students engage when connect with teacher

01:23:29
Jenn: "I am scared I will get cover 19. I can’t stop thinking about it. Any advice?Accept that is just a 'thought'...it's not an objective reality. Easy to say, b4ut hard to practice, I know!!

01:23:34
Thomas you may want to also check with your local union to see if they have a benevolent fund, or any other financial supports for you. And remember as a trained teacher you have LOTS of transferrable skills. We're in this together!

01:23:52
Maureen.... try a full body tense up and relax part by part when getting into bed

01:24:00
Thomas G - ours here are being very covid conscious at least - so he feels pretty safe there - also all his family lives 6 hr drive away - so he feels he is getting somewhat of a social outlet - connection too. But for sure such a hard decision to make - thank fully our numbers are lower in northern BC too. Idk where you are - but risk levels change per areas

01:24:10
Thank you for this opportunity. Be well.

01:24:11
Thank you!

01:24:11
thank you

01:24:12
Thank you Heidi! We are in this together and we will make it to the other side of this!

01:24:16
Thank you so much!

01:24:16
**but. (My computer keys seem to talk to each other :-?

01:24:16
Thank yo so much!

01:24:18

01:24:38
Thanks very much!

01:24:41
Thank you! Will you send the recording via email or do we need to go and download somewhere?

01:24:41
thank you!

01:24:48
Thank you Andrew and Stuart and Staring!

01:25:08
Thanks very much for the 'food for thought' & meaningful questions, folks !

01:25:35
YES - recording will be sent after the webinar

01:25:41
Stay tuned for the alert!

01:25:42
thank you, I like hearing and seeing a person! I also use your online program….so thank you for offering this webinar! Darlene

01:26:01
mick.... do what you can to protect yourself Mask, wash hands and that’s what you can control.

01:26:06
Can we share recording with others who didn’t attend?

01:26:09
bye

01:26:12
Thank you

01:26:40
Thank you! It is really affirming to hear that others are having similar struggles. You are very accurate about your perceptions on how teachers are people who don’t like to rock the boat, really want to help others, have high standards etc. You offer some great tools - and I have benefited from my time on Starling minds in the past, especially the thought balancer. Maybe add a gratitude journal feature!

01:26:55
Thank you! Onward.

01:27:08
Jenn: "do what you can to protect yourself Mask, wash hands and that’s what you can control." Completely agree!! Stay safe

01:29:26
Andrew you know teachers minds very well, it is helpful to hear from someone who gets us! our struggles and need for the pat on the back. very good reminders you’ve provided. a worthwhile hour spent with you and connecting with others. be safe and stay well folks!

01:29:33
Dr. Miki, you are such a strong advocate and ally for teachers, I wish that all of society could hear your insights!
