Community of Practice: Serving Emergency Food - Shared screen with speaker view
Have you formed any community partnerships to support your meal service program? If so please share!
Why is it prohibited in some districts to use buses/bus delivery?
What type of meal service model(s) have you implemented? (Drive thru, walk up, delivery, multi-day meals, etc.)
@BHughes - I am not sure why bussing would be prohibited. Can you tell us more about this during the Q & A?
What strategies have been most impactful for communicating with families at your site(s)?
I have heard from some districts up north who are serving thousands of meals weekly at affordable housing units. The housing managers have an exact number of children that live on the property and maintenance staff helped deliver meals directly to their doorstep.
@Kate I love that! Thank you for sharing! I
We started with drive thru and have now implemented multiple meals on two days. We are having families pick up their meals on a table that is over 30 feet away from the staging area. Parents get out of car and pick up their meals. All staff wear masks at all times.
What are your biggest policy questions and clarifications right now?
Thanks Jen. The resources have been SUPER helpful to our Team.

Does anyone in the group know how to answer this? “Why is it prohibited in some districts to use buses/bus delivery?”
Good question Amy. I think this is something we really need to get some official guidance on…
We have been requesting for a couple of weeks that children should not be present in light of “shelter in place”. We have had many families ask us if it is necessary to bring their kids to the school site. I’m glad the waiver is out, but we need CA to also provide a general waiver.
Yes, we are definitely going to need more guidance as CN employees test positive for Covid-19. We are following up with Public Health this morning for advice.
Although we have 3 months of reserves, money is going to go fast and revenue slim. Any word from USDA on funding?
In addition, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, passed by the Senate on Wednesday by a vote of 96-0, would provide the following funding:$8.8 billion for Child Nutrition Programs to help ensure students receive meals when school is not in session
Has anyone given a commitment from districts to pass on General funds to support Fund 13?
not sure how much will trickle down to each district though
Grab n’ go recipe favs?
I love that idea Erica! I am curious as well…
Is anyone advertising to fill out applications if their income has decreased or household size increased? If they get processed and approved they are good for the first 30 days of the new school year. Also, can we aske CDE to extend grace period to 90 days somewhat like the extension given by the IRS?
Trying to get permission
I don't have a mic
Ok! We’ll find a way to get your feedback and share :)
Sorry about that
Can you continue to offer these?
True Can we ask to extend the 30 day grace period to 90 days
Thats an excellent question Gail!
Thanks for asking Michelle. How often would a call be helpful?
Maybe weekly for anyone that can participate? Or every other week?
Thank you for your feedback. I think that’s feasible for sure. We’ll be in touch with everyone about that.
What feedback would you like to share with Gov Newsom? CSNA is doing a survey and we would love to pass along any requests for clarifications.
Would you consider doing a online training/video for front line staff and volunteers that they can watch whenever they are not serving food?
