I am currently student teaching in a fourth grade classroom; during our conversations, the students are concerned about missing out on what they are suppose to learn. How can we reassure them that teachers are prepared to get the students where they need to be?

I have a 1st and 2nd grader at Conant. I have found that a morning schedule works for them, but leave them a checklist of for the afternoon which they can manage throughout the balance of their day. Allows a good balance of structure, and flexibility... with "grace" for us all... especially when you want to take advantage of good weather.

I have a child entering kindergarten in the fall. She was enrolled in Pre-K, but since it has closed, what recommendations do you have for what I can do at home to prepare her for kindergarten, especially academically? Thank you!

Hi - Thank you so much for this panel and your time. Grateful for your time and all your insight. This question is for Pauline. I have a 4.5 year old who is not interested in anything academic and it’s challenging to keep him on any sort of schooling schedule. I am working from home and my husband is playing “educator.” We try to one worksheet a day and then focus more on experiences, reading, spending time together etc. You spoke about “making learning fun” - can you give examples?
Kristin

My son's school was in the midst of celebrating "March is Reading Month" with having parents come in to their child's classroom to be "Secret Readers." I set up a virtual secret reader program here at home...my kids are hearing stories from family and friends from all over the country! Just a fun idea for families out there! :)
