A concept I see a lot is that "no diet is cruelty free" including vegetarianism/veganism/etc when there are farm workers being disenfranchised and abused to supply organic foods.

Grace made a very good point on cruelty as related to ethics and practices. Very good. Organic may be healthy to the individual, but may be not that different than regular practices when it comes to mass consumer products.

Years ago it was encouraged to play music to your plants and they would grow better. I did it with my African violets and they bloomed beautifully. They loved Tchaikovsky.

As long as we keep concentrating in metropolitan areas, we will still need supermarket chains, just to mention a simple one.. mass consumption includes all sorts of services that definitely have impact.

One interesting point: It seems to me that a significant portion of real estate development is strongly related to investment speculation. eg: several luxury buildings by the coast line are owned by individuals that don't even live on the properties. Am I wrong on this perception? I mean..there's a mind set on "consumption, investment".
